I think about this everyday

I think about this everyday since I spend a lot of time there. Even Vanaduke's armor (which is grey now) had a white, divine sheen to it.
A lot of structure is made of wood, and seems to withstand time, and the cobblestone must have been a lighter color.

An interesting bit of research I've done is about the geography of FSC.
If you were to stack each level on top of the other, you would find the from elevator to exit, FSC is very long structure. Many of the levels also have stairs that go up, so it almost looks sort of flat instead of descending. I'll post pictures later.

The charred court at depth 25 is probably the most telling of what the people might have live like because hat depth has the only doors on walls. I'm also looking at the wooden pillars in the court where the fountains are, so I imagine it was a closed building as well. I think the wheel room were docks at the water at some point.

I've thought a lot about this. >W<

Interesting topic.

There was more:

-Crowns, we keep stealing them all
-Zombies, we keep killing them all and hiding the reviving statue
-peace, we wouldn't have been there doing everything

There was less:

-Hello-Kitty Band-Aids on Vanaderp
-fire
-zombie CORPSES

I have no mouth and I need to scream

I always wonder more that if vana was just some humble guy that was a little taller than others, but then darkness took over and he went crazy in the coconut.

After that he consumed...consumed everything.

Hmm... Blazzberry has a good point. What if Vana is wearing Majora's Mask? What if the moon orbiting Cradle would've crashed? What if Deku Vendors started popping out of the grasses in the Clockworks?

FSC definitely leaves a lot

FSC definitely leaves a lot to the imagination. Depth 25 would be the garden before the entrance, but that's a little weird because we're surrounded by walls rather than green shrubs. To the right of depth 25's entrance is a door. A solid, closed door.

The Almirian knight ghost looks exactly like us.

There's a bunch of trojans, which backstory remains a mystery to us whether they were here before we came, or they developed after we came.

There are floating skulls on depth 24 and sprites on depth 25.

Depth 28 has a wall outside its wall. That stairway goes into a tower of sorts I guess, so it's asymmetrical.

But FSC definitely looks a lot better than JK.

According to either Vanaduke's or FSC's wiki page. A little backstory is shown, here it is in short.

Almire was once a place full of Loyalty, and Honor. It was a small kingdom, with two larger unknown kingdoms on either side. Seeing Almire as a potential threat, the two bigger kingdoms formed an alliance and took over Almire. The Prince of Almire, Vanaduke, fled to the mountains to find some sort of way to take back his kingdom. After years of searching, Vanaduke finds a cave filled with ash. He walks into the ash and starts chanting the names of his ancestors, his life story, and how much he wants vengeance. The cave was home to a deity, which granted Vana his wish. Vana's armor the fused onto his skin and he was transformed into the beast he is now. With a legion of fire, Vanaduke stormed Almire. When the smoke settled, Vanaduke saw that he had razed his home and no one alive was left. Vanaduke waits in his burned home for those who should try and steal it from him again.

P.S. well that wasn't very short but I hope it helps!

Has anyone done any pre-ash artwork of the Almirian Citadel? I really want to do some various fanon stuff and I want to see if there's any already out there.

However it was viewed, I think tat it would be a pretty cool idea to rehash the Citidel (as well as other locations) for a look into the past. Those slags would actually be in their living form, I suppose as knights or whoever they were and the Trojans would serve as NPCs. But the again not everything needs to be explored unless that rehashing can bring more to the imagination of the player in the process.

Given the Alpha Squad's possible lack of involvement with the history, it would be interesting to see all of Cradle before our landing.

What if...

I imagine that Almire, back before everything went so horribly wrong, and it was pressed down to the core by all the other worlds collecting on Cradle, was actually up on the planet's surface. The sun shone in beams down on the Knights of Almire, who frolicked about with the graceful, adorable, fetchingly-corpulent nature sprites. An Almirian Vanguard stood by the side of the long bridge linking Almire to the camp set up by the first Almirians to land; nearby is a tall figure in a broad hat who always greeted the Almarians as they arrived back from their adventures in the vast Clockworks below. They would walk past the grand fountain in the center of town and up to the Auction Hut, where they would trade equipment and small trinkets from the Clockworks back and forth for Tiaras, the official currency of Almire. The owners of the Auction Hut regarded this name as absurd, and simply called the Tiaras "shinies," because that's what they were. Most of these "shinies" were looted from an ancient civilization, buried over a thousand years ago, now filled only with sad, rotting zombies. The Almirians often speculated upon what the civilization had been like, back when it had been thriving. One Almirian speculated that it was probably a paradise, where the people ran around all day through the trees, picking flowers and climbing vines. No one, though, had any idea what the huge copper torch peeking out of the ground was all about. But they paid it no mind, content that their world couldn't possibly fall prey to whatever had happened to the zombies'.

Time travel sure makes you think, doesn't it?

I always imagined the inside of Cradle as a giant Time Travelling Machine. I don't know where I got that idea. Thanks for the reminder.

I'm no expert at medieval architecture...

I'm going to assume that FSC is a citadel, hence its title. Judging by existing citadels in real life, the Citadel is probably at the end or in the center of a town/hamlet/city.

Hence, when we first do the beginning of the mission of "King of the Ashes", we'd have to traverse the Blackstone Bridge, a probably choke-point design armed with contraptions as the ones depicted in the actual game to repel intruders during siege.

Through the walls of most castles and citadels, the courtyard would have to be traversed. It's possible that they were chambered and divided based on wings or sides. Depth 25 is dubbed Charred Court for that reason.

Citadels in RL were usually of multiple roles, mostly as palaces, temples, and a depot for supplies, as well as armories for the many soldiers garrisoned there.

Depth 26 is dubbed Ashen Armory, befitting of the role of the citadel. This part of the Citadel is usually packed with soldiers preparing for battle, and if the grounds are ever penetrated, the soldiers' quarters usually surround the inner chambers to protect any nobles.

However, after the armory / supply depot, the residential chambers are next, not the Throne Room itself. This area would contain suites for guests of honor and resident nobles. As these are usually the highest priority next to the King and Queen themselves, they are heavily guarded for protection. Hence, at the Smoldering Steps in Depth 27, the Knights' ordeals are at the highest.

And finally, we have the Throne Room on dpeth 28. As the last resort of defense (and usually the most desperate stage, since the castle would probably be compromised by then), the most powerful guards and the few surviving guards would then risk one final battle to protect their king. On occasion, said king or queen would join the battle and be found among the dead. However, it should be noted that the back entrance allowed escape to a long corridor, usually out of the castle. I'm not sure if this was a common feature among castles and citadels, but by accessing the hidden passages, people would be able to escape the area while the guards fought to the last breath.

And valiant Vanaduke chose to go out fighting.

So yeah, I made it.
This was a while ago and I didn't feel the need to necro a topic for it.
