I am not quite certain this is the best place to post this occurrence but I don't see any place better.

Foreword:

This is NOT a rant.
This is NOT a complaint.
This is in NOT any way a slight to support or staff.
I totally AGREE with what happened and to be contacting by a gm.

I am not releasing names because the specific case is not what this is suppose to be about.

Goal: How do you deter unfriendly players?
Can I report mic abuse?
What would you have done?

So...I was in the arcade with a random guy leading a party and we seemed to be having fun. He wasn't the best but neither was I.
We would had some close calls for a two squad wipe on elite in t3. He didn't have high level gear and I didn't have specific weakness weapons.

We start talking about mechanics of the game and quite quickly he tries to state somewhat half-true statements.
I try to give some helpful information and he seemed to take it but bitterly. I guess I was insulting him without intention.

He compliments people joining the group on gear who join after this lead up. He ask who "NEEDS" orbs? I respond and say I do and don't I have energy.
This statement isn't false all I really need is to decide what weapons I want to upgrade with the resources I have.

He asks I open a energy gate. I do and the squad wipes except me and another guy. I state in chat this is why I don't typically open energy gates. People who don't have energy typically don't have or use sparks. That is my experience at least. The loot is great but few understand the "risk."

Reason I say all that is looking back I guess I made him mad. He gets on his mic and begins to chastise me. Oh look the energy guy is doing poorly. The energy guy can't shield bounce. Its like I lost my identity. I didn't leave party because we were at depth 24 or 25 and I wanted those 5 star fire crystals (This isn't the smartest idea).

This peculiar case kinda ticked me off. we are in an endless spawn room and the team just walks away from me. They then proceeded to shield bounce enemies into me. I end up dying and as soon as I do. The individual on his mic flames me. He states I am a liar and I suck and quite a few colorful other things. In a defensive filled rage I type in chat back to him. He flames me and I flame back.

I didn't circumvent the chat but I did use foul language (it just wasn't blocked). He reports me. I tell him to do so gm can see it. My question after reviewing the methods of chat and how ignoring works.

How do you stop mic chatter? I muted his mic and ignored him. I could still hear him. I accept the warning and totally agree. I used language and that is my fault. I should of left the party.

I goofed. With a game with a wide variety of audiences I understand why language is an important part of the game. So how would you have handled it? Honestly! Do I just leave parties when people start being silly?

I have some tips.

The Bible says we are to be "slow to anger." Or in other words, think before getting angry. And if you get angry, let it be intentional, purposeful, and righteous.

In this case, if you are inclined to respond to his infuriating remarks, think about how he will likely respond to your reply.
Example scenario:
He writes: "You lied and you suck!"
You want to write: "Oh yeah? Well so do you!"
You really want him to respond: "Oh, you're right, I'm such a hypocrite. Sorry, my bad."
How he's realistically going to respond: "You're a jerkass!"

Tailor your response to the reaction you want him to have.

That microphone thing really is a bugger.

I really don't like the whole mic issue; sometimes it mutes and other times it doesn't. :\ Someone needs to make that setting actually work always.

As for dealing with people of that sort, imagine all the insults you want. The real way to combat those people is to:
A) Ignore them.
B) Report them.
C) Make a witty response that is not filled with rage.

Honestly, the third thing I listed is the most fun for me to use on the rare occasions where people start to flame me (I'm usually quiet in both voice and text). If someone were to taunt me, calling me the energy person, I would play into that. My favorite color is energy, my sword is energy type, I defend against energy, and I have energy medium on my energy gun.

Don't reflect rage, as that will hurt everyone involved. Instead, bounce their rage back to them so when they explode, you're not in the blast.

reporting is one option...but for repeat offenders

Dealing with:

  • people who use a microphone

mute your system audio (for ease of use, press your "mute" shortcut key if your keyboard has media keys)

  • offensive chat
  1. open chat
  2. type in /clear and press your enter key
  3. every time an offensive message comes up press the up arrow key which remembers previous chat commands
  4. once at /clear press enter again
  5. repeat for all offensive chat

Someone else's power over you stops where you say it does.
The problem is some people are more clever at allowing you to empower them.

Mute Mic Glitch

I didn't know that the muting aspect of mics was glitched.

I knew that people who have laptops sometimes have a built in mic that for whatever reason is recognized and is used.
I went about 3 days into the game not knowing why my music was so silent out of my speakers till somebody told me to turn my mic off.
And the story continues....

The advice on entrapping a player to use foul language to report is unnecessary. I don't find that fair, smart, or the wisest decision. That doesn't help the situation.

My initial post was to introduce the topic and kinda "write out my frustration." The big thing I wanted to find out was mic conversation recordable outside of a video or another mechanism I enable. From what people are indicating....that is a no.

I don't mind witty banter but I felt like I was in a league of legends game. Looking back at I really should of just left, Radiant Fire crystals aren't worth a perma-ban.

I digress. I find it annoying people tend to lean more towards being abusive then overly nice depending on the game community. I am not implying this case represents SK community. I just find it silly how mad he got for me saying I have energy. Is energy taboo?

The guy sounds rather a bit

The guy sounds rather a bit of a leach if he's having you buy him access to a an energy gate and then insults you for having it.

Possible solution: Start your parties, then just kick annoying people.
