SK won't run on my computer as of three days ago.

For some reason, the desktop and taskbar icons on my computer stopped working about three days ago.
For previous problems, I just deleted out the icons and removed SK from the computer for reinstalling. A similar problem with an error message happened once before, and a patch soon after (a day maybe?) fixed it. Then all was well.
This has no error message, and nothing happens when I try to get in from the SK website "play" screen or anywhere else. At the moment, no icons or any remanants of SK remain on my computer, as I tried to uninstall the program, and nothing came up. So it's totally gone.

What is happening, and how do I fix it?

Thanks for responding

Well,
I removed the one on the taskbar from the taskbar, and I sent the other to the recycling bin. I deleted it afterward.
One does still exist on my start menu, but once again, nothing happens when I open SK from the website or any of my icons. No downloads, no start screen, nothing. I just deleted the icon from my start menu now, so nothing is left.

Thanks for responding, Zaffy-Laffy.

Once again, what is going on here, and how do I fix it?

I thought it was working, but now... Just like before :(

Since my last post, I tried the little link to the download SK wizard, and that seems to have worked so far. My firewall wanted to block it from downloading, but I got it through. This may have been the problem all along, but I don't think so. Why would it happen now and not before? This was right about the time the March of the Tortodrones event closed for the time being. That may have had something to do with it. That's what happened the first time when I couldn't get into SK for the day (see my first post). The developers released a patch that made it work about a day later, so many people must have had that issue (I didn't report that to this forum).
But now that the download and updating are complete, so far, SK hasn't shown up as the log-in screen :(.
I will check to make sure that only my desktop is being weird and not my latop too. It's just my desktop. I can get in on my laptop.
This has never happened to me before a couple of days ago. Longer loading times, yes. Lag freeze and lag muffins, yes. Never this.
Please let me know if I haven't provided enough information.

I still don't quite understand how it leads up to "nothing appearing". My diagnosis is that you had java deleted, but I'm not sure. Try reinstalling java?

You're right

Believe me, I don't know either.
I uninstalled and reinstalled java, and did the same for SK. Now I'm back to no icons, and basically square 1.
Still nothing happens when I try to use any SK icon or the Play section of the website. Nothing after the first progress bar is filled up on the Play screen of the SK website. It says launching, but it never launches.

Also...

Most recently when I try to use the "play" section of the SK website, the screen flashes, and then I have to move my mouse around to get the top of my browser back to normal. The browser stays normal in internet explorer, but not in Google Chrome. Once again, the loading bar says 100% and Launching, but never launches. Those screen flashes are weird too.

I have a similar problem

As I stated in a previous thread, when I try opening the game it loads the updates as usual, then starts (or tries to) the game. Except nothing comes up, a black screen flashes for about a split second to 1 second and disappears. My computer's task manager says its running though. Idk what's going on, I disabled steam overlay updated java tried setting the resolution to the lowest and allowed java and javaw as exceptions for firewall. My brother says its because vista is terrible which is why it won't run.

EDIT: I tried using SpiralSpy, and it says "Couldn't find valid pixel format" and won't load. This could help...

Exactly!

Basically the same problem I'm having, but my Java was already up to date, and I don't have Steam, so that wasn't even an issue.
But, I can only try to launch from the "play" tab on this website, and though it loads on the progress bar, other than that weird screen flashing, nothing happens. I may be describing exactly your case, but your description made it sound a slight bit different. Firewall isn't a problem either. I'm using windows 7 ultimate.
This did start happening after I got a new graphics card. I don't see how that could be a problem though...

@Eltrooper

It's not just steam, SK still doesn't run on the website either. I think it's probably just my computer.

Well,now it's working

I just installed the latest driver for my graphics card, and that seemed to fix everything. No more flashing, and the game is now running.

Thanks guys!
@Cinoa you might want to try updating your driver. There are links in the "Technical Problems? Read this first!" sticky article of the forum. The "dxdiag" tool should tell you whether or not your drivers are updated.

Edit: This thread is now closed unless Cinoa needs more suggestions or help.

I tried updating the driver, and it says it has the latest one. Spiral Knights still doesn't work.
