If you have an old router or can pick up a cheap one, you can easily turn it into a wifi repeater to broaden your coverage.

this trick worked for me
If you put your computer to sleep, it automatically switches you to linkdead, which I think keeps your character in game longer than going afk. Haven't tested actual numbers though.
