Allow Rarities To Be Traded

Lately, I've found that untradable rarities are both problematic and unnecessary.

Rarities such as fire crystals and orbs of alchemy found in the Clockworks, by default, cannot be traded when acquired, which is a seemingly pointless restriction. I say this because oftentimes you'll find you have plenty of a lower-tiered orb or fire crystal that you really have no use for. A friend or guildmate of yours may find themselves in desperate need of such rarities, but tend to have a harder time stumbling upon them. You would sure love to give them a hand, but it simply can't be helped. You've got a pile of unwanted rarities that you can't do anything with.

Got an absurd amount of Sparks of Life? Has a friend of yours exhausted their supply? Sorry, there's nothing you can do. Over 400 Warm Fire Crystals collecting dust in your inventory? Don't know what to do with them? What are you, some kinda hoarder? You could always trade them or sell th-- wait, no, you can't...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but few, if any, benefit from this trade restriction. I heartily propose it be lifted for both existing and future rarity drops. Else, I'd love to hear just why these are untradable in the first place.

Yeah...

I'd love for this to be possible too, since I always seem to be short on Sparks of Life and long on Eternal Orbs, but the fact is that OOO benefits financially from having rarities only being available for purchase via energy. With elevators now free, they're the main "everyday" energy sink in the game. Still I wish there was some sort of happy medium that could be worked out, because it's kind of ridiculous to have people sitting on hundreds of Sparks that they'll never use, while others are barely scraping by now that drop rates have been nerfed.

I support bound rarities, one of the major preventive mechanisms (along with independent looting) for using alt-accounts.
Need to farm more radiants? Invite 3 alts to that D28 arena in the arcade and trade them all to your main.

Definitely valid points I hadn't considered. It seems to me that, in a scenario like this, a medium would be pretty difficult to work out. It's something I'll definitely be thinking about, but if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

I think like a train, going in one direction until i stop

Maybe make them like bound weapons, unable to trade yet you can sell them to vendors at a smaller price than they're really worth.
Although i always support ideas that would encourage team play/helping others.

This is a great idea, I have 3,000 radiant fire crystals, 190 SOL, and 80 Eternal Orbs just from farming vana. I'm never going to need to use all of this so make tradable.
If not, at least be sellable to merchants for somewhat of a decent price.

I'm gonna say no to this one. Unbinding rarities would just bring back alt farming on a whole different level, first off. Not to mention this would damage the rarities market, which OOO makes a bit of precious money off of, as well as some players I've seen finding a way to make it work for them. Even if you just want to be able to help your friends and guildmates out, exploitation has to be considered. Not every player has the moral ability not to take advantage of something that might provide quick money (see the prismatic bolted vee incident).

As far as selling the rarities to an NPC, unless the payout is rather low, its still a little questionable in my opinion, but I have fewer objections to this. just make sure its significantly lower than the actual value of the item, as is the trend with vendors.

I have around 15k shining fire crystals atm. I know a couple friends with more. If only I could sell them at Kozma's prices, then I'd have 105kE.

Well articulated, Agent-Omega. (I'm unfamiliar with the Prismatic Bolted Vee deal, so I'll have to look into that. I see them on the Auction House all the time, dirt cheap.)

I'm getting the consensus is that the Spiral Knights economy is better off without being able to trade them to friends, but I feel there at least ought to be a way to offload them to NPCs for some sort of reasonable profit. I'd absolutely love it if that were done, but at the same time that could very well encourage alt accounts once more.

hmmm

I guess they could make it so you could craft # of bound of said item to create a # of unbound item

so like 3 bound eternal orbs of alchemy make 1 unbound orb of alchemy which would help limit and discourage people from selling them but make it possible to give to friends.
