Which weapon do you guys prefer and why?
The Gran Faust cause curse to both the enemy and to yourself but it has a higher attack damage than Acheron.
Acheron vs GF
>Gran Faust is a normal attack weapon.
>It does huge amounts of normal damage
As Gran Faust so is Acheron
And if the damage stats for Acheron that are on wiki are reliable then they are comparable in damage per swing except Acheron is faster and the combo consists of three swings thus it has a bigger window for shielding.
And yeah, personally, now, after playing around with Faust i'd go with Acheron.
There was already a thread on this...it might be a ways back there, but it was there. Also, pretty sure it had the same title.
I read the title as "girlfriend" instead of "Gran Faust" and thought this thread was about... something else...
if you check the wiki and type abbreviations in the search box you will find all kinds of abbreviations like Levi(Leviathan Blade) and DA(Divine Avenger)
Oh wow, I didn't catch the double type aspect of Gran Faust.
How does it affect damage?
Like, is there any situation Normal+Shadow would be worse than just Shadow?
... is there any situation Normal+Shadow would be worse than just Shadow?
Of course. Creatures that are weak to shadow damage would take more damage if your weapon dealt pure shadow damage, instead of split normal/shadow. The inverse of course is also true: creatures that resist shadow damage take less damage from a pure shadow weapon than from a split weapon.
In other words, a pure shadow weapon (weapon A) would perform best against Gremlins and Slimes. It would be worst against Undead and Fiends. The exact same can be said for a weapon that deals split normal/shadow damage (weapon B). Weapon B however will perform slightly worse against Gremlins and Slimes than weapon A. Weapon B will perform slightly better than weapon A vs Undead and Fiends.
After playing with silent nightblade and DA I like the DA swing better. (using attack speed gear though)
Heck, I rather use DA on pre jelly king stages over silent nightblade. As for gremlins, I'm undecided. Never really used DA on those cause they resist it and I got no faust.
Gran faust only has a chance to curse you on the charge attack. You can swing the regular attack forever without cursing yourself. TBH I roll with both on JK runs, because I like the usable charge attack that the acheron has, and the knockback and wider range of attack that the gran faust brings. If you had to choose one, I probably would elect to use the acheron, as the charge also has knockback, and the three swings does allow you some more options on timing swings/shielding. If the gran faust's charge didn't suck, I would go with that though.
So i got my hands on a Silent Nightblade and I can safely say that for danger rooms for safe playing the Nightblade line is better. Kiting with it is easier and the fact that there is no drawback with the charge attack makes it more viable to spam it.
just switched from a vile striker to a silent nightblade, Attack Speed UV medium. Im really enjoying the versatility of the three swings, and the usable charge attack... Some times i wish I could change the attack speed medium for charge time reduction medium, but whatever. the attak sped is nice to.
Point is... nightblade line is sweet.
I haven't upgraded my Faust yet, but I can tell you that I enjoy using me Acheron much more. The only time I like the decent knockback given from the Sealed line is when dealing with Constructs, so I'd prefer to use my Divine Avenger first.
If you prefer slower weapons that can curse, Gran Faust is for you. The curse affect against you seems to occur much less on a Gran Faust as opposed to a Faust. However, more testing maybe needed to confirm getting cursed less on GF. The Faust tended to curse my duo partner 2-3 times per floor. When he upgraded to GF, he has only been cursed once over the past month. I did, however make him a Vog Cub Cap a few weeks ago with medium UV curse resistance because he was getting cursed a bit much in Arenas or when just messing around while waiting for floors to change. The one time he did get cursed with his GF was 2 weeks before I finished the Vog Cub Cap with Medium UV Curse Resistance. He has since been curse free! Gran Faust with curse resistance gear is awesome in PvP.
We are also using the Brandish line: Archeron, Combuster, Glaucius. I use the Archeron more for Jelly King. I switch between Leviathan and Archeron on Jelly Farm floors. For myself, I really don't want to raise a Faust until I get some curse resistance on my armor after seeing how often my friend got cursed. It could just be that he was unlucky with the odds as far as the Faust goes. But he has no problems with his Gran Faust.
i defnitely prefer my faust. if you use it right, nothing melee can touch you. damage is great (combo does less damage than arch by like 50-150 depending on the floor) and the knockback + reach means you have a ton of breathing room when fighting large groups. and the charge is AWESOME. curse is one of the best status effects in the game, pretty much guaranteeing you kill whatever you curse. just be sure to have a third (or fourth) weapon slot so you can keep fighting if you yourself gets cursed.
My Gran Faust has been a huge help for me. It deals great damage, you can also curse monsters. People say that you shouldn't get a gran faust because of the charge's curse to the user. Not true. All you need to do is get maybe an angelic or seraphic set - anything curse resistant, it will lower the chance of curse to the user by a lot, and make it so that only 1 weapon is cursed, so you can just switch to another weapon.
I recall there was an old thread bout this way back when i was more active
I'd say GF is better
Damage-wise and kb-wise
You only get cursed when you use the charge attack, but the normal swings are hella awesome for Jellies and Gremlins
a friend of mine can't handle the gran faust and thinks archeron is better and i think the other way around :)
i got so used to shield cancel and when i see an opening use the combo (hell i even use my gran faust to kill greavers) but i generaly avoid fiend stratums (devilites i avoid like they are the plague haha)
it all comes down to preference not wich one is best
Gran Faust is a normal attack weapon.
It does huge amounts of normal damage and occasionally curses.
It's charge attack is also quite damaging, however it does have a chance of cursing you.
For the most part, it's considered a RJK and PvP weapon.
