I've only been playing a couple days now. Total of about 10 hours of game play so far. I've managed to get a Wolver Cap and Coat. I have a Cutter and Voltech Alchemer. And the Skelly shield.

I haven't managed to find a guild yet and I haven't tried out tier 2 runs yet, however I have made it down to Moorcroft in two of the gates.

My thoughts are that I want to find a guild that will be helpful and just fun to talk to.

I think I want to continue using the Cutter line of swords, I love the speed. Specifically, I think I want to build up to the Dread Venom Striker.

I think I want to get out of the Wolver line of clothes and switch to the Chroma series of armor and building ultimately towards the Deadly Virulisk Set.

I think I want to keep the Skelly shield and ultimately build towards the Dread Skelly Shield.

As for the gun, I think I want to switch to the autogun / pepperbox line of handguns.

Since I haven't run in Tier 2 yet, and obviously Tier 3 neither, my concerns are how effective would this weapon / armor load be for farming in Tier 2 / Tier 3 and for boss runs. I understand there is no single perfect set for all purposes and some runs are going to vary from others but I'm looking for input from someone who has used any of this later tier gear and has an opinion or success / failure with them.

Thanks in advance,
Kerstrom

As a...

As a player who runs with a wild hunting blade, fiery pepperbox, sinister skelly suit, miracle hood, and wise owlite shield (don't as why i am going with this). I can say that the pepperbox charge attack is good for tier 3 places eventhough it pulls the enemy towards you it allso knocks them down letting you run back and use it again (also knocks them out of their attack unless jelly then use something else) also the dread skelly set in genera is good for tier 3 because of the shadow defence. The armor you picked, other than the shield. From what i have seen the dread venom striker has an ok chance of posin but if you can get in enough hits it has a desent chance of posin. This would be good for the jelly king (tier 2) please if anyone has differet advise correct me.

For gear:

Dread Venom: Good weapon, generally considered superior to the Hunting Blade line since it's more effective against everything but beasts (poisoned enemies have less defense) Tier 3, though, is a different beast, and the cutter line in general isn't as highly thought of. In the end, it will depend on play style and personal preferences more than anything, and if you're enjoying it, keep it up.

Armor/Helmet: I personally think NOT having a set is better, as it prevents you from missing out completely on two different defenses. Otherwise, again, preference is key. I use Vog/Fallen, personally, but I'm a sucker for IAS and not many enemies do piercing damage. Of course, spikes are hell, but such is life, and gives me more reason to stop being silly and step on the darn things.

Shield: Skelly isn't bad necessarily, but having a shield with either high health (Omega Tortoise) or elemental defense (Owlite series, others) is often nice since the majority of enemies do either normal and/or elemental damage. You'll probably still do fine, but just be aware that enemies in the later parts of the game start doing more varied damage types, and broken shields are baaaad.

Gun: I've got no comment. I personally prefer alchemers, but I use my gun solely as a back-up against constructs, and otherwise use swords.

I should mention, though, that you will likely end up wanting more weapon slots, and can start branching your inventory when you do so. That can have a much larger affect on what weapons you use; for example I run 3 swords, one of each damage type, and an elemental gun for constructs. Others run three guns with a normal damage sword for general use. Etc.
