Guys, i always wanted to be a striker in LD but i learned it was too hard for me so i decided to learn recon (which was very easy) on my own with my brother's help. i still want to be striker. any recommendations for striker? i heard from someone in my guild flourish is very good at striker. are most of the similar swords like barbarous thorn/torn(i don't really care) blade good at it? cause i'm going for it. please note i am only a knight elite struggling for elite orbs(which are the rarest) at this time ~ i don't really have that much crowns for extra swords/guns or gear(im going for the dragon gear).
striker
thanks for the help. shield cancel is is breaking the shield barrier for guardians right?
Shield cancel is using your shield, or in this case your striker boost, to interrupt your own combos. You do it by pressing attack -> shield -> attack -> shield -> attack -> shield, instead of attack -> attack -> attack. This makes you do the first attack of a combo three times instead of the first, second, and then third hit, which will often leave you vulnerable to attacks from behind. By using only the first hit, you are able to stay more mobile.
I'll supply you with tips then.
(Remember to shield cancel press the shield button RIGHT after you attack.)
-Kiting. This is when you go around the enemy and hit them at their back, or side. This works on recons, strikers, and guardians, but some skilled guardians will catch you, and punish you, so watch out for that.
-Use Antigua lines, Flourish/Thorn blade lines (This is a must) / Blaster lines/ Sealed sword lines(This is a must)/Pulsar lines(Be ready to be called a noob though.), Brandish lines These are some good weapons to use.
-Use wolver line and chaos. These are pvp armors that give you the upper hand.
-If you are facing a skilled player, wait for them to use up their boost then attack. This is when dashing, and conserving your boost is vital. Always dash towards your enemy, it usually catches them of guard, and you go through their attack. However skilled enemies with fast reflexes will still deal with you. (Also dash after doing a full combo so you aren't vulnerable.)
thanks. you know, everything is easier with a game pad i heard brandish's combo is so slow if you are recon you can be invisible like shield canceling but still finish the combo, is that true?
Ps i got antigua and want sentenza.
First of all, learn to shield cancel. If you can't do it perfectly more than nine out of ten times, you need to practice. Although this is relevant for all classes, it's arguably the most relevant for strikers as they'll otherwise have to take quite the beating.
Make sure to not rely on your combo. It's fine using it where you see fit but most of the time, LD is a game of swinging once and shield cancelling. Once you're familiar enough with shield cancelling, you might notice that you can only do three successive shield cancels before you can't attack for a little bit. It's two hits for heavy weapons and five hits with cutters, as many as they have hits in the combo. You'll need to be familiar with this limit or you'll mess up bad.
Other than that, LD is a lot about experience, reaction speed, the ability to predict your opponent's moves, and latency. Practice makes perfect although no one will ever reach perfection so being pretty good at LD is okay too.
As for your sword, Flourishes are indeed great. Barbarous Thorn Blade is pretty equal to Final Flourish. The only difference is the charge and both charges suck in LD so it doesn't matter. Another weapon you might want to consider is Acheron. It's a tad slower than FF/BTB, and has a smaller hitbox (although almost the same reach of roughly 1.25 tiles. The difference is not even noticeable) but deals much much much much heavier blows.
