Crystal Energy is effectively
Crystal Energy is effectively a low level power source, good for powering small devices but too inefficient for something like a starship. It would be like trying to power a jet plane with coal.

If you want to escape Cradle, then you're probably going to have to wait for Spiral Knights 2 or after all the bug fixes to the current game are finished.

You do realise Spiral Knights '1' is no where close to being finished and its been out for a few years now. There will never be a Spiral Knights 2 ever. Well not in our life time. Do you think Spiral Knights can have a sequel?

My point is that the chance of leaving cradle is pretty much zip until OOO finalizes Spiral Knights. An expansion pack is 2000x more likely than a sequel.
