So just for fun i decided, why not try this without a shield?
surprisingly, it was really fun to try and outmanouver and get behind enemies, so then i thought;
1. why not be able to move faster
2. why not be able to dodge more often
3. why not get a backstab bonus

just because this was actually pretty fun to do, of course this was just in the early missions with enemies like those skinny robots and those small lizards so i dont know how viable this would be against later enemies or bosses...

gods ain't gonna help you, son.

because using a shield is what you should do, and you should go on shieldless runs only for fun or challenge. you're not supposed to go shieldless.

Taking out shields just wouldn't be fun, for many reasons.

A "backstab bonus" would be interesting if it was based on weapons rather than whether or not you're gimping yourself.

A better suggestion would be

A better suggestion would be if a depleted shield only defended from the front.I mean what the heck, you have a 1-ton shield made from the rarest materials in front of you and all the damage passes through it?

Also, having the least amount of gear should significantly increase movement speed(no shield, one weapon.etc.) and thus give birth to a new class.

True enough

@Draycos and @Thunder-the-Bright not remove shields completely, just make not equiping a shield seem more like an option instead of a stupid thing you would do if you didnt like the colour of the proto shield and you didnt get the defender yet. also the idea of making certain weapons have this backstab bonus would only make sense if you say it wont apply for heavier weapons (those thwack hammers and heavy hatchets)

@Dahall i dont really have ever a depleted shield, sorta makes more sense to move away if your shield gets low? but still that makes sense, sorta like what those mecha knights do if you get trigger happy

As long as shield-cancelling exists, and situations in which you need to shield/dash in order to avoid damage exist, there will never be a good reason to stop using a shield (unless you had insane bonuses that break the game, or something).

Giving bonuses based on how few items you're using incentivizes being a one-trick pony, which is incredibly boring and/or makes team-play absolutely ridiculous.

Girls do their best now and are preparing.

What you're suggesting here is basically the Swiftstrike Buckler. Reduced defense and your advantage is the ability to complete attacks quicker so you can dodge easily.

Backstab would make playing

Backstab would make playing recon in LD much more fun. (compared to getting a few shots in before you get 2hit gran faust by skolver or snarby strikers.)

This ain't Touhou nor is it Dark Souls, but if you want mechanics like that you are free to suggest them.

Hexzyle post#6:

I never really got that touhou reference.

Hexzyle post#6:

You would also need a shield to decrease movement speed i.e "focus" in touhou
