I'd like us to discuss other players but for once, it's going to be (and will hopefully remain) a thread not about skill, but inspiration. So, who inspires you the most? Why?

Personally, I haven't had many inspirations in LD but there are a few people.

  • Feyi and Retequizzle. These two prove that everything is possible in LD, even gunning with gamepads and no AT. Feyi has even managed to stay mature while debating AT. Like, wow.
  • Icycute. I met Icy when I joined Jempire. She was the only one who I had seen using the same style as I do (Toothpick+Brandish) and also happens to be one of the best players in the history of LD. Thanks to her and Jempire's overall (now retired) motivation to play and improve in LD, I was able to reach levels of playing I had hardly dreamed of before.

Just about anyone who is not cookie-cutter

People who avoid using damage-boosting gear and put up a fight are people I will instantly respect. Also people who use normal-damage weapons. I've seen great usage of both a DVS and winmillion.

Seiran and a friend of mine Mynameis-Seven have inspired me to try out gunslinging, and now I'm amassing an arsenal of gunner gear. It'll be fun to get that working for me.

-Retequizzle. these beast come out nowhere and cut me into two part with shadow blade~ these guy inspired me to not use sword againts ping2win with good gear player because most of them can daze me easily and make me remember i still get 1 free token just by hit enemy one time or just 1 cap then sit reading comic while standing in main base -,-

Holy crap, a thread about giving up pride!

Well, there are two people that come to mind:

Nethrom - The dude knows how to have fun. Even if he is actually playing serious, he can still learn to lighten up and not be mr. super serious annoying guy about it, he can also take criticism which is an added bonus.

Odeselegante - One of the most upright straight players I've ever seen in LD, he stands by his own ethics and acknowledges others. Compassionate and not competitive.

Dando-Real-Ita: the guy who introduced me to playing guardian. Even if my style grew to be very different from his, I gotta give him credit for teaching me lots of things and helping me with gear.

Hadn: the striker I'd like to (but I'll never) be. Deadlier than a rocket launcher shooting rocket launchers loaded with rocket launchers shooting rockets.

-Funnybunnys : Latency player of the year. Played LD with the worst connection possible...

Contri: I taught myself to play when LD started in 2011 cause I'm an awesome God and I don't need any help.

Feller/Mitenub/Bestias ppl (not Sparkcub and his fanboys, only the real players): I learned to play GvG with strategy with those noobies.

Prophe:
The first one that actually bothered teaching me how to play Striker though my head was thick, I got it after a while. I also regard him as one of the best LDers at his prime. R.I.P

Levitch:
Taught me how to do the switching effectively and was a good person till he kind of fade out...

Pytun:
Not a friend or anythin, but he did inspire me to try the Valiance+Antigua combo and hell, it's stronk.

Meida:
For letting me copy his style. :3

Time to give credit where credit is due.

Redblades: he actually took the time to spectate me and give me advice back when I was a little nub. Much appreciated bingbong.

Solimando: He was the first to call me 'AT noob'. Big moment, because I actually didn't even know I had it on.
I realised I was actually really bad, turned it off and never looked back.

Hadn: the one that inspired me to go hybrid.

Daystorm, Coldness, Oh-Quiet-You, Xxdragneel, Reto-Da-Liz: I can't thank these guys enough for the great time in The Fallen, the place where I became the Lockdown player I am today.

There's other people, but I can't list everyone.
Good thread Krakerjack, positive things in the coliseum is strange.

Badworm:
Maybe it was because I wasn't as experienced back then, but I still have memories of the kind of pressure a guardian should be able to give, thanks to this guy. I want to turtle like he did. When I play guardian, I think "how do I Badworm?". An inspiration indeed.

I know there were other guardians after his time that some people would mention (ex: Cyrilmorrigane) but y'know, sure is nice to be "first" lol.

All hail the non-striker heroes. I wish I had a recon hero, oh well :;

Epic-Legend-Knight:
dude's name is EPIC LEGEND KNIGHT, ran around in cobalt with almost no UV/trinkets to mention - basically the most basic gear ever, and wrecked people. Yeah, it's a skill thing, but come on, if that isn't a "hey, skill > UVs" example to inspire people, idk what is lol.
Also, his name is
EPIC
LEGEND.
KNIGHT.

ARE YOU NOT INSPIRED

Lots of people

There are no real specific people but I always return to LD to play with people who like to talk. Silent games in my opinion lose a lot of the fun of it. So really, I find a lot of people fit this criteria. I also respect people who don't complain and be incredibly competitive. It's just a game, have fun with it.

But if there is one LD inspiration it'd be Seiran.
Taught me how to be a recon gunner. Although I still suck at it. And I need to build up the proper gear for it too.

So it's ok Seiran, you might not have a Recon Hero but you are certainly mine :P

anyone...

Anyone who pairs up with Guardian.

Why? Because they understand what Guardian is for and make it their objective to take full advantage of the benefits it provides.

Skybrandon - Best friend

Skybrandon - Best friend since 2k12, best rival buddy I had in Tier 2.

Retequizzle - Such a genius and makes me feel warm in the butter. This dude could really hand me a pickle and show me how to fry it.

Krakob - Engaging in the community and bringing people together with his care-giving and thoughtful comments. :)

Lechery - Tries out so many damn loadouts I don't even know what he's good at anymore. He just does everything to an above average level, which is amazing.

Exileddread - If it wasn't for this dude, I'd be stuck doing something I don't even find a reason to do. His sword-only playstyle reminded me of who I used to be and why I liked to play that way. His fearless emotions (dude went into a fight balls-deep and didn't even give you time to think before he already started a stunlock). Rock On Exile :x<3

Grimranger - Always my best friend and competitive rival. Always getting better without me and with me, always have a good/annoying match vs him.

Canozo - He turns me on

New Arrival: Very-Cherry !
Make me believe in the Guardian age<3 Thank you for showing me that skill still lies outside of the striker region. Stay Epic ~

Well...

To me when lockdown came to SK everyone wanted to prove others that they are the best. But few of them have achieve that state or to me, that state.
For gunning there was only two that truly inspired me... SEIRAN and myself because of my name. (FIRETORPEDO)

Seiran- He has basically taught me the skills of being a good gunner, or what I call the Seiran style. Using a single weapon but not reloading it at all for a long time.

Swordsmen |
He was the one that made me a striker V
Skybrandon- He was the first player I ever seen that was actually good, back then when lockdown came out. Trying to be like him I came out of guardian and became a striker, now I am a "good" striker.

Tmdals- Really good in brandish when everyone was using polaris too much. Became different from the others and was really at it, too. Tmdals believed in me when I was a ashtail while everyone called me a AT noob, that's how I really wanted be pro like him. He was my mentor, I call him that.

Rdzknightz- Maybe the only guy that never had used UVs, before he quit the game. He show how you can be good even without using AT. So I am one that don't use AT like other people.

Bombing

Fayeth- Truly one of that greats in my books, his dodging skills were too good. So when I bomb I try to be like Fayeth.
