I'm currently on the magic cloak alchemy path with my armor and I was wondering if anybody seriously uses the Chaos set so I could get some testimonials. After looking at the stats for it on the wiki I was instantly drawn to because it adds a level of intensity and craziness to the game which I think is going to make the game a lot more fun for me. I'd imagine the common assessment of the set would be "Wow it makes you weak to everything, how useless/stupid/lame!" but that's seriously what's drawing me in. Instead of rolling Grey Feather Cowl like every ordinary person, I want to add a bit of spice to my game play experience by making it ridiculously difficult. With the Chaos set, instead of just casually shielding and slashing at bad guys I'm going to seriously have to be on my toes in order to avoid being hit by anything. That said, I'm also going to need a really nice shield to protect me from everything that roams in the clockworks, so what would you recommend?

TL;DR:
What's your thoughts on the Chaos set, and if you've used it, how was the experience? Also, what shield would go well with it?

Not a chance!

I've used other magic set items, so I have a good idea what status vulnerability does to status durations (from the stun vulnerability). When I think about that combined with fire, shock, freeze... eeek! Status effects in T3 are too harsh. Maybe I shouldn't say so without actually -trying- the darn thing, but from the stats alone chaos set looks unplayable in T3, and why would you need a 5* gear set in T1 or T2...
Not that I wouldn't love a universal damage bonus since I like switching between guns and swords, and soon between guns, swords and bombs, but I just can't imagine living with that status threat.

Also, of course, it seems that curse may curse a different number of items depending on your resist/vulnerability (or perhaps each item rolls a chance of being cursed, whatever) ... curse is manageable if you have -a- weapon still useable, but without one it's pretty nasty. Good luck with it though, let us know if it's as bad as everyone fears if you actually try it. :)

(I know a number of people that have -looked- at it, none that have dared it.)

Uh

Double fire/shock duration for 13% extra damage? Horrible trade imo.

Im the only person I have ever seen actually use both the grey feather cowl and mantle. I see divine veils more than anything.

Agree with all the above. If

Agree with all the above. If you haven't played much T3 you may not realize it fully, but status effects are the real killer down there. Getting hit with a fire with no resist will essentially take down an additional 1/3 or 1/4 of your total life before it finishes ticking, and being shocked or stunned can effectively kill you in any T3 room with more than one enemy in it.

Now adding WEAKNESSES to all of the above? Forget it. You'd have to restrict yourself to only fighting in clockworks that have no status effects, or basically your life will be completely reliant on keeping a full stock of Remedies.

On top of all that, the Defense of the set is already lower than other 5* gear, and the damage bonus is negligible.

Overall just not worth it at all. If you've already solo'd Tier 3 in multiple different gates and want more of a challenge in the game, maybe you'll like it, but from any comparative measurement it's just a completely terrible set.

I personally think it was

I personally think it was designed to counter the purring cap. It was a uber rare preview event item that gave you quite the opposite status resists to chaos cowl/cloak (medium status resist for all statuses) all link to what it looks like is here: http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/9996/skgmpc.png (5* version) and here: http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Magikat_Hat (3* version) I don't know, it sure looks like you were supposed to wear one to counter the other...

That was a joke...

He was quoting the MewKat from Moorcraft Manor, the "Dark Ritual" in question here being the necro of this thread.
