Actually that's a Diablo 1 & 2 reference.
Anyways that's pretty neat. We should get secondary confirmation on that though, just to be sure it isn't a display glitch.
What I wonder is if there is any way to see it.

It must be the secret Tier 4!
If not Tier 4, then it's where the Alpha Squad ran off to! If not that, it's where all the good NPCs are at! If not that, it's where the Gunner Update is hidden! If not that, it's Vog's den! If not that,
Ok, I could do this for hours. In reality, that may be a part of the level that just can't be seen from where players walk. Which leads to the question of why would it be there anyways?

gods ain't gonna help you, son.
if look closely, it's the section just to the upper left of it. it's just part of the level that wasn't removed when they added the gates.
Looks like one of the level designers forgot to clean up their mess when they finished making the level.
