So I thought that the levels were locked in once all party members were on the elevator/descend has been hit.

Apparently this is wrong.

I got on an elevator with the arena image and hit descend while it was still an arena. Instead, it sent me to "Lichenous Lair Cold Fusion".

I'm not sure if it said "Lichenous Lair" at the bottom, 'cause I wasn't paying attention. But the image on the elevator was definitely still the image for the arena.

I am so angry, I don't even.

That is all.

It's almost like there's several people in-game that tell you that the Clockworks move in real-time so it's entirely possible to wait for a rotation before getting on an elevator... Too bad there isn't. The Developers should really notify people of that somehow...

Lag. Or you happened to step on the elevator at the exact same moment it switched away from the arena, assuming the level changes before the monitor does. What a coincidence!

Take me for a ride

What happened was right before the elevator was going down the level changed thus you did not get your arena. This is the whole real-time feature Spiral Knights has everything is ever-changing

This is the result of a

This is the result of a slightly incoherent game design choice: levels were originally designed to rotate in real-time (so that you CAN choose your own path). But various design changes have since occurred that discourage players from trying to control or take advantage of this cycle:

- Slowing down the cycle time (making waiting unpleasant)
- Hiding the lines on the gate map that denote the path through the gate
- Random levels that can't be skipped or avoided

Overall, the result is a clutter of past designs mushed together, until it's hard to tell what the devs intend now. You can still wait- but without knowing how long, it means that the "control" game mechanic involves sitting around a long time.

I'm not a fan of game mechanics that are painful and boring to use, but that's just me. Hopefully it'll get some design love eventually, but such small polishing changes would likely come only after the (small) team has had a chance to add content.

" ...the monitor may change

" ...the monitor may change while heat is being distributed, but the level has already been chosen"

:/

If the level changes before I get on the elevator, the monitor should really change with it. Instead of leading me on like that. Especially considering the monitor can apparently change while you're on the elevator, but not affect the level you're getting. And the monitor didn't even change.

Also, my quadcore processor + 8GB of RAM say otherwise to lag (not to mention I don't get lag ever in this game).

I don't mind the waiting, but now that I know it's pointless anyway because they'll just change the level without my knowing until it's too late, I may as well just not try to "control my outcome" (if they didn't want players doing it, why did they even make it an option?).

Breaking News! Input is not 1:1 in an online game! Fire is hot! More at 11.

Then they shouldn't say that

Then they shouldn't say that you're guaranteed a level once you step on the elevator, even if the monitor changes (which *gasp* means that the level changed before you stepped on the elevator if there's a delay! especially considering the monitor didn't even change). :/

Now take your stupid sarcasm and gtfo.

You are. You just happened to step on the elevator a milisecond before the monitor changed to note it because, and this will blow your mind, there's no such thing as "instant" in an online game. Hell, if you want to be technical about it, there is nothing instant anywhere regarding anything. At all. Ever. The more you know!

Perhaps you ignored "take

Perhaps you ignored "take your stupid sarcasm and gtfo." like you seem to have ignored EVERY OTHER WORD I SAID. Because the only part you're ever quoting is the part without any explanation. "even if the monitor changes (which *gasp* means that the level changed before you stepped on the elevator if there's a delay! especially considering the monitor didn't even change)" Yeh, did you read that at all? Can you even read?

THE MONITOR DID NOT CHANGE AT ALL. EVER. So saying "a millisecond (you obviously don't know spelling either - are you still in like, 2nd grade, by any chance?) before the monitor changed to note it" is WRONG. Completely and UTTERLY WRONG. And this proves you don't know how to read. Because the monitor NEVER changed. It still said I had got the arena as the elevator was going down. So based on the wiki page, I should have gotten the arena, because I supposedly locked in the level as an arena. But I obviously did not, and the monitor never changed to reflect that I missed the arena "by a millisecond" because you realize that the monitor can still change after you've stepped on the elevator, right? It doesn't become static just because you've stepped on the elevator. It should have at least changed AS I was stepping on the elevator, to show that I had missed the arena and it was now going to be a different level. That's just how this game is supposed to work.

Now get out. For real. I don't like you, and I don't need to take crap from you. I have enough crap to deal with irl.

lol@replicant defending

lol@replicant defending errors on the wiki. read more thoroughly or stop flamebaiting/nitpicking~ (we all know we are nearly guaranted a level when we pay 10energy, just not what level we get; that line on the wiki implies otherwise)

Poor you.

Well, either way it's just a level.
If you got a lichenous lair, the payoofs are roughly 1k-2k less than an arena, maybe even less.
No need to have 3 rages.

Yeah I think a 1/2 rage, at most a single whole rage, would have sufficed.

Rage?

Obviously the surplus rage was provided by Replicant.
