I don't know if anyone has ever noticed this, but there are some things in Spiral Knights named after Greek things, like Basil, which means "king" in Greek,or Polaris, which is the North Star. Also,a lot of the Game Masters names are named after important and unimportant figures of Greek mythology and culture.
For instance,Aphrodite is named after Aphrodite, the god of love, beauty, pleasure, and procreation, and Eurydice, who is named after Eurydice, the wife of Orpheus.Thalia, named after the muse of comedy Thalia.Cronus, named after Cronus the Titan Lord, and that. Either the GM's named themselves after these Greek figures of mythology and culture,or they just thought "Hey,these are cool names",i still find the Greek names fascinating.
Has anyone ever noticed?
I think no one talks about it because they assume everyone already knows about it. Its not too hard to figure out.
But you forget that a lot of people don't really care about the origin of names, they just think they sound cool etc.
I did notice Aphrodite and Cronus, but didn't really think too much about it. Who knows, maybe they are Greek :P
Like my main Solanales, which is basically a category of flowering plants including the awesome potato. But no one cares about that.
Every time I see the name Aphrodite now, my mind thinks of all the Love Puppies I brutally slaughtered over the years.
And you forgot to mention Grintovec, Jalovec and Triglav (and MANY others) >:o how dare you!
Btw you can read each item's Trivia on wiki and it says where the name came from.
There is such a GM.
---------------------------------
I wanted to name myself after my steam profile(Sicarius) but it was taken by a long gone SK user :'( ---(Sicarius is latin for assassin)
Prometheus is definitely the best GM name. Just saying...... cuz then GM Prometheus could steal the third troika and give it to the players in the most poetic fashion possible.
Look at Hail-Oh, the Stranger who greets you every time you load in the Town Square. While normally you would think he's a pun on "halo", he's actually a pun on "hello", which references where he's always standing.
...Also I named my Maskeraith "Apotheosis" and my Seraphynx "Disdain".
pretty obvious imo
and most games use names, objects, and/or places from mythology of foreign/native (ancient) civilizations
