I've been seeing this switch around every once in a while now. It doesn't appear to do anything. Not hitting it still allows me to progress just fine and it can only be activated once. Anyone know what it's for?

You probably don't see them but it uncloaks hidden Gm's.
This one in particular is very crafty as they blend in even uncloaked.
I havent figured out that one yet, but ones in specific missions transform a specific block into a ghost block.
These exist in Heart of Ice and FSC.
The switch has nothing to do with the gate. The button opens that one. I believe I have tried activating the switch first to no effect too. You never, ever come in from the other end to my knowledge. 1800 hours and counting.

And even then, you would need a pot or something to open it, and there's no pot spawner in that area.
Yeah, I also wonder why that thing is there...
Probably just a leftover part. That's what the button in FSC was until the devs changed it to be like it is to-day.
It probably just got spawned along with the button, but the button has priority so the switch doesn't work.
Whenever we hit it the gunner update is delayed another month.
But we get 2-3 more promos in the meantime!
That particular room should have other switches in it, and only a certain number of switches need to be hit to advance.
Once you have hit so many switches, all the gates are open, and it's a waste of time to hit any more.
Now where is my cookie for saying all that?
Sometimes the lev els are reversed and certain things change, and you'd need that switch to open that gate.
