Normal Colored Accessories and Making Them More Available

Let's face it. No one really opens iron lockboxes anymore. As a result, normal colored accessories (i.e. heavy, cool, fancy, toasty, dusky, military, regal) seem to be scarce in some areas. For example, I love using flowers on my helms. Flowers used to be maybe 30k-40k cr a long time ago. Nowadays, it can be incredibly difficult to even find a specific flower I'm looking for and when I DO find someone selling it, they're asking 100k+*. The same goes for other accessories like bomb bandoliers, ribbons, glasses and the like, in which prices on normal colored accessories are going up and finding them has become increasingly difficult.

* - I have had this happen to be several times before. People asking outrageous prices for a normal colored, common accessory.

Here is my suggestion for this:

Put colored accessories on a randomized cycle through the depot. When I say randomized, I mean random color, random accessory type, etc. This includes only accessories you can find in an iron lockbox. Ofc, there are a few problems saying just this, which I will now acknowledge. More will be added as I think of them/see fit:

What about rare accessories and auras? Would those be cycled?
I would say for rare accessories like wings, tails, etc. those could be cycled VERY rarely, only 1 rare item per cycle if a rare item rolls, and for a high price.
For auras, I would say no cycle. Keep 'em rare.
But seerusly OOO, why u no cycle rare auras in featured anymore. :C We miss our twilight auras in featured! But that topic is for another post.

How long should it be between cycles? How many should be cycled?
I'm honestly not 100% sure though my first guess is 2 weeks. If you think it should be less or more, say so. As for how many are cycled at once, I would think 10 would be suitable. Or even that could be random, say 7-12 or something.

What about event items like party hats, grand toppers, etc. Should those be cycled?
I would say no to special event items, meaning items introduced during an event/promo.

What about special event colors? Would those be cycled?
No, I do not believe special event colors should be in the cycle queue. You don't want MORE hallow accessories, do you??

So, what would this mean for the iron lockbox?
The iron lockbox would still be useful, seeing as you can still get auras from them very rarely. You also don't ever know what accessories or their color are going to show up in the depot next. It could take one cycle for the accessory you want to show up or it could take 10 cycles. Thus, iron lockboxes would still be an option.

What would these accessories be priced at?
That would be entirely up to OOO if they even implemented this, but I'd hope they would keep them not too cheap but also not too expensive. Not like 100k for a maid headband or 10k for a scarf. |3

Suggestions from Others:

Suggestion 1: Box Types
A suggestion from a friend is that perhaps other kinds of boxes (perhaps also opened with a silver key) should be introduced. For example:
Flower Boxes (all types of flowers, not including rare colors)
What do I think: I'm not 100% sure on this one.
Fancy Boxes (all types of accessories of the fancy color, not including rares (wings, tail, etc))
What do I think: This might seem a little more interesting but again, not 100% sure.
Subsuggestion: Box Transmuting
You have a fancy box and you have a bolted vee box. You transmute them together (for a price) and get a fancy bolted vee.
What do I think: I'm not 100% sure on this. If it were so, it'd probably need a decent fee. Even then, I'm not sure on it.

Suggestion 2: Prestige Grants
A friend also suggested that every time someone hits 5k more prestige (5k, 10k, 15k, etc.) they be granted a normal colored accessory (minus rares) of their choice. The catch is that this accessory is bound to the account.
What do I think: Seems like a nice encouragement to get more prestige.

Suggestion 3: Fix Lockboxes/Silver Keys
FlawedKnight's post suggests that perhaps we simply need to change/modify the silver keys/iron lockboxes themselves to make them more appealing to open. Perhaps the silver key price could be adjusted to not be so high BUT not so low that accessories become dirt cheap. What are your ideas for this?

What do you think about this idea and the suggestions? Poke holes in all this, add your own suggestions to this or simply discuss it.

It's still RNG, but it doesn't make us slaves to it.

I'd like to see more base-color accessories in the environment. It would make customization/personalization better.

I also like the idea of rolling these through the SD. Yes, *occasionally* a rare item is featured in the AH, but only one and for a high price. Leave the AH for special items like chaps. Sell regal flowers and fancy wings in the SD on a rotating random basis.
If you feature, say, one item, and it changes daily, you'll get people who sign in to check the SD for something they want. You can charge a reasonable cost for them (bolted V = cheap, wings = expensive).

I think the idea has merit.

Made a few minor changes and additions, namely specifying that only accessories in an iron lockbox should be cycled (minus auras) and added that only 1 rare item should cycle at a time, if a rare item is chosen for that cycle.

I really do hate RNG, even if it's for cosmetics... I don't have very much to say to your ideas besides "I agree". Still, here are my thoughts.

Coincidentally, there are seven standard color schemes.

I propose that each of the seven days should be dedicated to a certain scheme. This way, you wouldn't have to keep checking the Depot day to day when you only want a specific color.

I think that it'd be cool to see the special/event colors be obtained a little differently, but unfortunately, I don't think there'd be a way to tie them into gameplay without ruining their value for people who already have them. Unless it was something difficult or time-intensive, anyway. Maybe those spark tokens or even that upcoming 'challenge mode' in last year's "what's in development" thread?

Materials (and eventually rarities) are largely unimportant for high-end players, and minerals are likely going to be more valuable after the Arcade Redux.

Mats could be used to decide the color of your results, and rarities/accessories could influence the... uh.. rarity. The more you sacrifice, the more the common results are thrown off the table.

Of course, these would only be worthwhile if it meant removing results, not just lowering the odds of getting them. I can't stress this enough.

Lastly, I'd like to see some sort of gimmick with the Prize Wheel where your odds of receiving lockboxes are increased based on how well you played. It's strange that your odds are only based on how often you open boxes...

A few of the factors might be...
-How many times you were KO'd, emergency revive included
-How much loot you collected vs. how much loot the entire level had [including danger rooms, excluding energy gates with only boxes behind them]
-The amount of players that were in the party (better odds when playing with others)
-Difficulty and the type of level (best chances on Elite, danger missions, shadow lairs, boss fights, etc.)

it pains me when I see something like a heavy com unit for 38k or some military goggles for 22k
accessorising shouldn't be that much of a luxury, the luxury items are prismatic/unique and divine/shadow/volcanic etc (I just noticed that those follow the 3 pet themes)

Take all my +1s!

I like the basis of the idea, but....

The problem I have is that there already is the concept of getting all of these normal color accessories. This is of course the iron lockbox. The reason why these are so scarce is due to the fact that people view the silver key as a poor value proposition, but if one is now able to charge a premium for common accessories, why the heck don't you just open more iron lock boxes? if last year I could sell you a fancy flower for 100K (or anything else like that) 750CE would be a great value proposition...

I think that the real suggestion should be that we should make the silver key / lockbox paradigm a better value thus increasing the number of opens. If the key cost was set to the median worth of produced accessory it should in theory be fair. There is another problem with the balance of rarer items stored within the lockbox as well....

I think you should probably just suggest that the iron lockbox system is broken and it's evidence is that almost no one opens them any more, and perhaps you should suggest some easy ways around it to increase the number of common accessories in the market.

That being said, even now I open a fair number of iron lock boxes. and have a pile of flowers if you want some hahaha

XD If you're selling them for 100k each, no thanks whatsoever!

I'll add your suggestion on my first post as an alternative. c:

I think fixing iron lockboxes to give more of an incentive to open is a good idea.

Maybe add some things OOO has already lowered the price of by putting them in supply depot (valkyrie/dragon wings, hacked aura etc) or newer items like orbs, uv tickets, name change passes, guild furniture etc.

Or new accessories that can only be found in iron lockboxes, but that would probably be too much effort on OOO's part.

Free keys with promos or add them as extras in promo boxes might be an idea, people used to buy a lot of the explorer's packs when they were on sale.

This sounds like a great

This sounds like a great idea! Personally, although I like Prismatic and SOME promo items, I think the price of the normal accessories should be lowered. When I opened my first Iron Lockbox, as a noob OFC, I got Regal Glasses. I was unhappy because they were worth 30kcr at the time. Now I see Regal Glasses on the Auction House for as much as 100k. I totally agree with what you said, and the ideas about the Supply Depot and certain colour/accessory type boxes sounds great!
