Why not merge Accessories into your "Costume" tab?

So, I just returned to the game after a LOOOOOONG stint away, so perhaps I'm overlooking some sort of important detail. However, it seems to me that Accessories should maybe be tied to your character, as opposed to a specific item. That way, you can freely customize your character, without worrying about accidentally "losing" a rare item somehow.

Specifically, I have the Tails' Tails item, and I'm contantly worried I'm either going accidentally vendor it or something, or even "waste" it by putting it on an item that I don't intend to wear indefinitely. In fact, I'm extremely inexperienced in terms of the game itself, which contributes to my worry. If I could simply "unlock" the Tails' Tails accessory, though, without worrying about whatever items I replace, that would be fantastic!!!

Convenient & Money Sink are

Convenient & Money Sink are not mutually exclusive for OOO.
As nice as it would be to freely move accessories around, even if accessories are bound, there would be a loss of market, because suddenly people don't have to buy more than one "wolver tail" to stick on several different items. And then OOO won't host promo item sales anymore because people don't have to buy more than one. And as long as people need to buy more permanently broken accessories, that'll make OOO happy.

Recently they release accessory unbinding tickets which is sort of nice, but still the prices are sharp and high. You'd have to be unbinding Solstice Crowns, Auras, or Prismatic accessories to sell or reuse to even consider using that feature. In any other case it's much cheaper to just buy new accessories.

It would be nice and convenient if it was the way you said it, but economically speaking it's probably not in their best interest.
I hope that clears things up. : >

confirmation, alt

Vendoring an item requires confirmation. Attaching an accessory to armor requires confirmation. In your game options, make sure that you haven't disabled any confirmations?

Is the item bound to your character? If not, then make an alternate character and store it on the alternate character. Then you will have less chance of accidentally messing with it.

Well, I suppose my thinking

Well, I suppose my thinking is that, at least for retired, probably-never-coming-back items, maybe it's worth making an exception? They would likely still retain their value -- and perhaps even increase -- while being a little more lenient for those one-off items.

Again, though; just my opinion!

I'm sorry, but could you name a few? I can't think of any off the top of my head that won't be coming back that aren't put on the Featured Auction page from time-to-time.

Honestly? Tails' Tails are

Honestly? Tails' Tails are the only one that come to mind, as I've probably not played since 2012.

Perhaps an alternative could be something like Guild Wars 2's "Wardrobe" system? That is, you can use the appearance of absolutely any item that you've ever equipped, but instead use a "Token" to use the appearance of said item. It would effectively be the same system, but in reverse; the main difference would simply be that you would never have to worry about "losing" an item somehow, plus you'd have the full suite of options available, without clogging up inventory-space (assuming that ever becomes an issue).

I mean, like I said, I'm hardly the most knowledgable person around, I'm just throwing out ideas that I think might be a tad more user-friendly. More than anything, I'd just like to be able to rock Tails' Tails, even as a low-level, without worrying I'm "making a mistake" by using it.

The Sonic CD items have appeared on the auctions

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on this one, because it's not common for the Tails' Tails to be on the featured auctions, but it definitely does appear from time to time.

However, being able to "lock" items would be an interesting feature. Locking an item would prevent it from being used, equipped, sold, traded, etc. until the player unlocks it. This is something you might want to throw over to the suggestions subforum if you haven't already.

I just know that Guild Wars 2

I just know that Guild Wars 2 has implemented a really cool system, where once an item is Soulbound, its appearance is unlocked for use; you just pay a small fee each time you apply the appearance to an item. That way, you're not stuck juggling inventory-items, it's all about unlocking items, and then that's it.

I prefer zOMG's method:

I prefer zOMG's method: Costume items are never locked to another item, and only weapons are soulbound. Of course, they have many, many more costume items available, and more options for mixing and matching them. The nicer items cost real money to obtain at first, which is enough to ensure that their price remains high in the market.

Let's all do ourselves a

Let's all do ourselves a gargantuan favor and NOT bring over any ideas from GAIA Online. These days, their staff cares more about money than maintaining & enforcing a stabilized virtual economy. There are many things that SK needs to do in the future, but becoming anything like what GAIA is today, is most definitely NOT one of them. >_> <_< >_>
