Veno, the Mysterious Merchant

Veno is a stranger who has recently moved into Haven. Compared to other Strangers in Haven, he has no visible eyes as they are covered. He speaks in a slightly deeper voice too. Oddly enough, no snipes appear around him which is quite strange for a stranger.

He has very rare equipment and other things for sale but will only trade them if the Knight has gained enough of a reputation to purchase said items. Items can range from rare Handguns that are akin to Winmillion and a Sword of the Stars. (Hinthint)

Reputation would be earned through various means unlike directly purchasing the items, the player must complete a series of tasks to improve their reputation. Veno offers 3 Daily Quests and 1 Weekly Quest. These are much like Prestige but work slightly different than expected.

For example, one of the Daily Quests would be "I'm looking for a crystal from a Silver Trojan. If you would obtain one for me, I would be more than thankful."

This is just an example, a Silver Trojan would appear in place of any Trojan within the Arcade on non-boss depths. It has a 25% chance of spawning in any given place of a normal Trojan and is slightly stronger, faster, and larger.

Completing said mission would give you some reputation (Example would be +15) thus improving your rank within his store. The more reputation you have; the more you unlock! Other quests would involve something much like "Complete Royal Jelly Palace with a four-knight expedition using only Cautery Sword." and things akin to that.

Onto reputation and purchasing in-depth: Reputation as stated earlier is a point system within his shop. Reputation would increase the amount of equipment you may purchase from within his store. This goes by a "rank" system. For Example:

Your Knight starts out at Rank 1. To upgrade your reputation you must earn 600 reputation in order to reach Rank 2; granting you much more purchasing options and benefits.

But let's continue onto a currently running event: Black Kats. What does this have to do with Veno you may ask? To make the mission less of a grind-fest (or even an option) how about giving Veno a specialized quest that works the same way but the quests give you a unique token which can be used to purchase some material-specific things or even an incomplete Book of Dark Rituals?

There's quite a bit that has been said here and I'm hoping this is well-received.

could reputation be based on rank perhaps (as in there are rank separated reputation levels)? because a low gear player could just rack up reputation and just get a higher weapon then they should

and possibly instead of special missions u need a special material from a semi-rare enemy like you said, maybe put it only in arcade so people need that for reputation, arcade really needs something special aside from basil

More ways for F2Pers to get the super cool items! Plus a reason to use my cautery sword!

Would be something for everyone to do not just endgame players.

Adding a token as a means of purchasing rare, event only items would be nice. I would go even further and divide the 3 Daily Quests into different difficulties. As an example:

09/30 Daily Quests:

  • Normal (1 Token reward): Defeat the Roarmulus Twins with a full party of 4 in any difficulty
  • Advanced (2 Token reward): Defeat 50 Slimes with a Cautery Sword
  • Elite (3 Token reward): Complete Royal Jelly Palace with status bombs only (Elite difficulty)

This way, people will be encouraged to log on daily and have an incentive to play missions they are probably tired of playing for the last few years, or use weapons they shelved away in favor of better ones, or rise up to the daily challenge to play a mission in a new way they never tried before.

Hmm

Could this stranger please be a harvester in disguise? That would be neat. Like have some tentacles seeping up under them that they try to cover.

It might be good to have a prestige link. Like, you have to have the first badge in order to use their shop. That means you won't focus on their things until you become a vanguard hopefully, and essentially makes it new end-game content (although, other players could access the shop too if they run prestige missions). Further badges unlock more daily missions from them.
Why is this?
Because this stranger seeks power, and only the most prestigious and powerful knights should be aiding it. Perhaps we could even get rehashed danger missions, similar to shadow lair versions from them. We could get 5 tokens from those missions, and maybe we could even trade shadow lair materials to the vendor for 25 tokens? Would let me get rid of these shadow manes I have laying around.

However, these quests should be recovery based. The "what weapon killed what" code is laying around, but there might not be a way to track it. I don't think making players use only one gear type would be the best, but instead say "kill X with Y weapon, and I'll see it be worth your time". Clearing the royal jelly palace with only mist bombs sounds great, but unless you have an organized team you might get someone using a sword.
Focus on the individual while making tasks difficult enough that they warrant a full party.

Veno won't always be in Haven, right? He will pop in time to time?
The idea overall is fantastic and looking forward to OOO releasing this in the (near) future.

+1 to this suggestion and i

+1 to this suggestion and i agree we should avoid the "kill x with y weapon" thing as fangel stated. and if its arcade only thing then yeah! arise arcade! arise!.

well of course if OOO decides to implement this as glacies stated and not like "try to find a 0.0000005% monster spawn chance in clockwork"

I would cautiously disagree - these "quests" should be seen as something you do on the side or makes you interested enough to get the particular weapon to use it to achieve the quest.

Example: I don't own a Cautery Sword. I probably never will. It is a reskinned brandish with a monster damage bonus type that I don't need or care about. The style of the sword doesn't particularly appeal to me either.

However, if these tokens are used as currency to obtain rarer, event only materials used for Mysterious Alchemy, it would not bother me at all to craft a Cautery Sword. It would encourage me to have/hold onto a variety of equipment (which I believe was the intent of the game and the whole shift towards orbs of alchemy as drops, making it "easier" to craft equipment). And obsolete weapons would be given some usage in the game.

I would also encourage organization-based quests (especially for the Elite level reward; normal and advanced should be solo-clearable) - it stresses the mechanics of the game and adds an implicit challenge in itself without actually coming up with new content. The RJP Mist bomb clear is something I've done with my guild when someone brought it up, and it was loads of fun.

I can see why it makes it difficult to complete in random lobbies, but that's what makes it an elite level pay out. You would want to make sure everyone in your lobby has bombs only before going down the lobby elevator.

Great idea! Would be pretty nice to know that someone in Haven actually is a bit unsure of you. That said, I think it would be better if Veno was a Gremlin merchant in Emberlight. Emberlight is a bit... empty. If you're going to complain, do remember that:
1: His tasks change daily
2: 4* Items would be 100K to purchase from a merchant, and 5* Items would be 300K to purchase from a merchant. Prices calculated from sell values. That said, perhaps a higher reputation would afford a slight discount.
3: Knights require to be a certain rank to use higher star gear. It's fairly balanced.

The only thing I'm afraid of is that, recently, OOO has been doing bug fixes, prize boxes and events. But just maybe this will happen :D.

I made a set-up of what Veno's Shop could look like in Spiral Spy. I'll make another image and find a way to upload it.

Fun idea: Have Veno Show up

Fun idea: Have Veno Show up in a shadowy part of the Arcade terminals (where we used to deposit minerals) have a special gate that went down to a strange clockwork terminal. Make it as dark as the Grasping Plateau but have there be numerous candles around where Veno is standing. In the same room there will be a special alchemy machine (give it a Shadow Color scheme) that uses mats collected from Veno himself.

Also make it so that Veno appears only on Full Moons, if the player goes to the dark terminal at any other time the candles will be out and Veno won't be there.

On special days (lunar eclipse, solar ecplise, comet, meteor shower, solstice) let Veno give special missions (solstice missions would be hard to finish but would give materials needed to make Celestial items or less gaudy equivalents).

Veno could also sell refined versions of Beta armors as costumes (still recognizable but different from what they turned into)

@ Thunder

Solar eclipses happen fairly rarely so the recipes stuff on that day would be pretty sweet stuff.

Lunar eclipses happen on a much more regular basis so stuff on that day wouldn't be as great but it would be better than stock stuff.

In general though Veno would show up on the days that have full moons and would make special visits on the above mentioned kind of days.

It's still a better idea than every Friday 13th or something...
