Level Idea: Coral Caverns

(Sorry for the length, I'm no good at extensive writing.)

The lab has detected something strange rising from down in the Clockworks. Namely steam, and lots of it.

An elite squad, armed with the best weaponry available, was sent down to investigate the source of it all.

An hour into their journey, they found a strange new type of level. A sort of sphere, half filled with water, and contained what appeared to be an extensive cave network.
Expecting the worst, the squad carefully explored this strange new level. An unexplored cavern network, half full of water, with a darkness penetrated by the glow of the Cradle minerals.

Why should this level be added?

Coral caverns, simply put, will be levels that are slightly more dedicated to exploration, containing more passages and dead ends than your typical Clockwork floor, and may even help players new and old, who want to level up their battle sprite faster. Even if only for a day or two, wouldn't a new challenge be worth it?

These levels will be more abundant with minerals than other levels, and the colours of the five minerals will be a motif in these depths. Softly glowing lines of minerals will streak across the walls, rooms will be illuminated by mineral-coloured luminescent coral, growing in corners (Which can be smashed in the hopes of a heart or a crown or two ), and glowing puddles can be found dotted around the floor.

Enemies

Gremlins and Slimes will be the most common families here.

Gremlins will be here to observe the new levels, build bridges across water pools and the like to help other Gremlins explore the caverns, figure out the best way to detonate the level, and other diabolical activities. (Possibly bringing some Constructs with them, to help tear down rock walls)

Slimes have been the residents of this place for ages untold, whether they were attracted to the water or the minerals remains unclear, but they really did make the floors sticky.

I've made the thread, now rip it apart.

Sounds good to me. I'm not sure about the abundance of minerals but if they are all one kind (per room) then it can help set the mood

Could we get special monsters like Coral cubes (rock jellies with coral instead of stone) and Lumbers constructed out of coral?

It's a shame that words tend to speak louder than actions here though...
I really do like this idea though; it reminds me of that whole underwater theme from awhile back.

yeah it does

there was a thread about making underwater levels, this one is pretty good.

- I was thinking there should be some obstacles like random gushes of water from the side of the cave that obstruct knight from passing and the knights would have to pick up some rocks to block the passage ways of the water so they can move forward.

- Also, what about adding an extra element where if a shock type enemy shows up and launches and electric status /a type of attack such as elemental and what not, it would shock any knight without there shields on while standing on top of a puddle. This would give the monsters a bit harder difficulty.

I can think of more ideas later but that's all for now.

I'm vohtarak, call me by that name

maybe also add a new slime

like instead of aggroing it just slides (like slide on ice kind of thing) randomely
and attacks if you get too close

@Oohnorak - that's just a Wisp or a Shankle right?

As for the water stuff - I suggest This (more specifically this).

@Klipik-Forum if anything,

@Klipik-Forum if anything, THIS (as in, this idea) will more likely be added as it takes more graphical reskins than anything, and that's all OOO seems to be doing these days, adding new clothing and reskins of weapons :(

I'd like to see this of course, the game is sorta stale as a lot of it is either grass or tiled floors and just fighting similar enemies :\

klipik I meant like a blue colored slime that looks like a lichen that bounces randomely off Walls and stops to attack like a lichen would, then keep bouncing

Ahh, I thought you meant it just kind of slides past you wildly flailing its spikes in your general direction.

I would go nuts for this. I love glowing places, and cradle could use more darkdark levels like candlestick keeps. I would totally bring my Stranger Hat in here! And I'd giggle if I saw someone with that rather rare Soaked Aura in here too.

Deeper water could even have... JELLYfish slimes. Oh there's a lot of potential for this. Mwahahahaha. I like the idea of floating/flying/hovering jellyfish too, not just swimming. Maybe not all lichens are from space...oooo lore mystery oooo.

Could some areas be like inside a giant jelly? Like the walls try to eat you? Could do slowzones too (like they did in Grinchlin Assault and Gremlin in Knead, just sticky slime).
Anyway, the walls could just, deal stun or something, or be covered in jelly spikes that stab out if you get too close. I'm overly excited by the visuals you've described and I'm probably not articulating very well.

I think inflicting shock in puddles should be very painful and hurt the party if they're standing in any connective water. (This is to reduce polaris spam really) :D

I love your gremlin bridges idea. The sphere fits into the clockworks really well. I mean you can even see that sort of thing in that giant gear in the background sometimes. You know the one with the orbs. Love it.

Actually, on second thoughts.
Maaay change Slimes to Fiends.
Otherwise it would just be Shadow weapons all the way.

Sounds good to me. I'm not sure about the abundance of minerals but if they are all one kind (per room) then it can help set the mood"

More minerals = More chance of getting a bigger mineral chunk than usual.
But, I kinda like that idea more.

"Could we get special monsters like Coral cubes (rock jellies with coral instead of stone) and Lumbers constructed out of coral?"

Gremlin miners!

"Anyway, the walls could just, deal stun or something, or be covered in jelly spikes that stab out if you get too close."

I was considering something like that, but what if you're the dude who tries to dash out of the way of an attack, only to get a facefull of spiked pain?

"Also, what about adding an extra element where if a shock type enemy shows up and launches and electric status /a type of attack such as elemental and what not, it would shock any knight without there shields on while standing on top of a puddle. This would give the monsters a bit harder difficulty."
"I think inflicting shock in puddles should be very painful and hurt the party if they're standing in any connective water. (This is to reduce polaris spam really) :D"

So, do you mean that they would work like shock tiles (like the type seen in GitM and RT floors), that are triggered by enemies?
That sounds like a great idea, but it'd require some weird coding to pull off.
It would probably have to be hit by a shock projectile, but not actually stop the projectile.

Green Glob

About the coral caverns, is there a way we can make it link to the "Jelly Green Giant": http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Jelly

I mean the minis still exist, so why not make this a promotion to bring back that jelly freak with brand new status themes and what not.

The dev's did say that they are working on some new inhabitants: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/1006#comment-6337

so a re-worked form of the jelly would perfectly fit this theme we are discussing.

@Bland that post was from 3 years ago, and they've released both new levels and new monsters since then. But putting JGG in is a cool idea.

And @OP, Slimes is preferable to Fiends because there are waaaaaay too many undead- and fiend-themed levels in T3.

Seriously ..

@Klipik-Forum: you are so right, it's 3 not 2, but 3 years ago and that room is still closed where you used to be able to access the green jelly glob. T_T

I mean new monsters are great but i feel the working on it part will be taking another 2 to 3 years for them to release that green cube or maybe cancel it all together.

ahem... anyway i totally think that green man fits the corals given that if we can make the room its in is green colored and have a glow in the dark kind of glow to it. It would be Radioactive, with lots of green mini's camouflaging with the walls and floor and continually re-spawning. hehe
