So we dont pay for Elevators after the major update. Thats a groundbreaker, I respect the decision greatly.

The drawback of having to forge your weapons each level instead of letting them just level up? Im okay with this, it gives incentive to keep going into the clockworks if not for the loot.

But then you run into my problem: Having way too many of a lower level crystal than what you usually need.

The Solution? Well, we already have a means to fuse crystals down into lower tiers, why not do the same for higher tiers too?

Lets take my own count of crystals for example, at 900 Warm (2*) crystals.

What if I could fuse those into higher grade Glowing (3*) ones? At a rate of 5 Warms for 2 Glowing?
This gives me 360 Glowing Crystals, which can also be fused up later into Shining (4*) crystals, 144 of them.
At the same rate, 144 Shining would become 56 Radiants.
A fusion system like this would easily remedy those stuck in Heating Limbo because they cant acquire Radiants.

More realistically, I see the Ratio at anywhere between 5 for 1 or even 10 for 1, but 18 or 9 Shining crystals are still more valuable to me than 900 Warm crystals

What do you all think of this?

OR

you could find one of the many threads about this exact idea but with more thought put in
and comment on that instead of putting in a new one

But.. that isn't a problem.

@vohtarak

You know, I might have, if for some reason the search bar worked correctly. I dont know if this is just Steam users or just me, but the Search Bar just doesnt work. So I scanned through a few pages of the Suggestions forum before posting this, so it must have fallen out of discussion, Pardon me for trying to bring it back up. It might help discussions like this if you werent so very dismissive of the ideas people atleast attempt to consider and try to bring into a community discussion.

@Exerpa

So you can use those Warm Crystals you find ad nauseum for gear well above what can actually use it? For a 2* knight, this is great because then they would have no issue leveling gear, but then you get to someone a bit higher up, even just 1* higher, and suddenly those 900 Warms are useless. Do you see what I am talking about here? The worse part is that you cant trade them either, so all you can really do is sit on these crystals, unable to use them or sell them to someone who can.

Forge boxes all the way

The best solution is to allow low star items to have a forge box chance (as minimal as the rest but still there), this would provide incentive to heat low star items. This would be good for low star players and high star players. Low star players can come across a pleasant surprise and high star players will have to limit their loadouts or drop their defenses if they plan on farming for boxes.

For future reference.

Oohnorak, no need to hate on a suggestion that has come multiple times. This one has thought behind it and isn't just "there's a problem. do something about it".

But for future reference, do not use the built-in Spiral Knights search engine. It is terrible. Instead, use keywords on a google search with the "site:forums.spiralknights.com" tag and you'll find plenty of similar suggestions to these.

An upgrade feature might be a thing that is workable, but with other costs too. Have a crown fee like we do as well, and make the conversion rate rather insane so that a knight searching for 3* crystals will be more obligated to play the clockworks, not upgrade their crystals.
The rates I would think would be good would be a 10:1 ratio. That would make fire crystal hunters more likely to hunt for the crystals, and the lower star ones too. This also means it would take 1000 warm fire crystals to make one radiant, so it doesn't encourage players with a bunch of warm fire crystals to make them radiants without running out of their warm supply, as it would be much easier to find radiants than it would be to collect all those warm crystals.

@Holy-Nightmare

As nice as that would be, it would also break the crafting system too, So I can understand why they put it at 3* and above, so that you cant just spamcraft.

@Fangel

In that order: Thank you, Thank you for future reference, and Thats about what im thinking.
I agree that a more realistic rate is in the 10:1 range, because once again, it still encourages clockworks exploration over clockworks grinding, but the option is left open should you be overstocked with a crystal you cannot use. Warm Crystals are nice and all, but even you have to admit that a thousand is rather silly

Agreed!

I agree with erson's idea provided that it is modified into fangel's idea. as long as the cost is expensive and the player has not need for the item, their is no problem to convert them into something that is usable for the player at that moment.

-Addendum-

Given what we have in-game already with Crystal downgrading, clearly the systems could be put in place for upgrading. My only question now is "why hasnt it been implemented already?"

Surely Three Rings would have seen this coming a mile away that having an excess of a material that cannot be sold to anyone, traded, or otherwise used outside of a single purpose. I mean, they have the means to reduce a crystal to lower levels, Which is nice if you intend to start completely over, but then what do you do for those trying to just heat up for their current level, far above what they have an excess of?

All this encourages is grinding like nuts until you can get the heat together to even make 5* gear. And then what after that? Grinding at the end-game for Radiants. SK has become a grind due to this vertical brick wall they set in place, and while no elevator costs facilitates this grinding well, its still grinding, and a lot less tense than older days where you had to mandate your energy expenditures wisely, just to explore the lower stratums. Where teamwork was encouraged through the use of shared health revives, rather than the selfishness that is conserving your Sparks of Life for when you need them most.

As a player from before the Steam days, this is what I see in the game now, and it honestly makes me sad.
