Adding a large field to Spiral Knights.

I feel like this game needs some open-world feel to it.
A large field would do the trick.

You would exit haven's gate to different entrances, and each entrance would lead to a different place in a large field with monsters in it. It would have pathways and elevators to other areas, with pathways at the ends of each area acting like elevators.
Up to 8(or more) players, going through different ways through a randomly generated map.

...this suggestion wasn't very thought out... but feel free to critique it, as long as it is constructive.. or something like that.

it would boil down to be just a larger level with different exits, nothing more.

Yeah, i think your onto something Pery. But if we'd make more surface levels like Dahall said, they should probably be connected to haven but with a different artistic style, like a field. Oh, and maybe monsters would rarely pop up in it and knights could use weapons. Yeah. :D

good idea

This is a really good idea. There are a few things that would need to be changed though. It really could not be random generated because it could mess a few things up like lag. It should be all of when you first started playing and on the way to Haven with more area. I hope they get your idea.

So basically a bright and sunny Shroud of Apocrea?
That level's not the most fun to play through. Having more intricate puzzles or actually having a linear path system like the clockworks would work much better for it. Being on the surface would be fun though.

Surface levels good. Big field with not much in it bad.

This seems like alot of work on the servers. I can't help but feel that for what it's worth it would cost OOO too much time that could be spent on better upgrades such as additions to the now pointless (as other weapons have come to out-class them) Troika and Striker lines (I love them but let's face it, some weps deal more damage AND have higher speed. Some even have more range too and deal the same status).
I would personally rather see things like those being the target of OOO's time. Aswell as that but I can only see levels linked to haven causing more people going to haven to get to those levels, therefore more people in haven (even if not many more) and therefore slightly more lag.
