Hi, forums! I'm in Indonesia right now. My flights back home will be as numerous as they will be time-consuming, and as such I'm looking for something to stave off boredom during the approximately 24 hours I'll be spending at airports and airplanes.

What I have in mind is something in the vein of novels, comics, podcasts, low-battery consuming videogames, et cetera.

The tools at my disposal are as follows:

  • Samsung Galaxy S4
  • Playstation Vita
  • A crappy Chromebook (with Linux also installed)

Airports sometimes have free wifi, but it's usually bad and shouldn't be relied upon. I'm hoping I can have all my entertainment ready before the trip itself (which is on the 19th). I may or may not also be able to find power outlets at some airports, but this should be considered a bonus rather than a given.

Variables to consider:

  • Two of the flights are ~5-6 hours each. The phone is probably going to die during that time if I use it for video or even audio.
  • The youtube app lets me download videos on the phone for offline viewing and it's pretty cool, but it's a big battery drain and I only have a couple of gigabytes free.
  • I only have a couple of gigabytes free on the Vita as well.
  • I don't mind paying for some new vita games as long as they're good. Am considering Virtue's Last Reward.
  • The chromebook can't be used on planes because there's simply not enough space to unfold it. It has a good battery life, however, and I'd love to get some mileage out of it at airports, if only to give my phone opportunity to charge.
  • I friggin' hate Vita games that make you use the rear touch pad.

I believe that the Binding of Isaac is on the Vita as well.. which is about the extent of my knowledge regarding the Vita. I have never seen, touched, or smelled a Vita and am not even sure what they look like. But I'd definitely get Isaac on it, because I'm imagining it to be like a DS crossed with a gameboy advanced but with the Sony logo on it + now a touch screen on the back? Like why is there a touchscreen on the back? Do they expect you to play pin the tail on the handheld console?

I wouldn't rule out audiobooks, movies, television shows and ebooks either. Or physical books but IDK about that.

How is Indonesia and the girlfriend/waifu/honey? I'd love to hear all about it.

Oh not the cookieclicker. That's just min-maxing for like 30 hours.. like, just go do your taxes on the plane or something.

Do you have any specific genre of games you like because withou that I wouldn't know what to put here.

About the psvita: I heard uncharted was a launch title, but I really only have one game on mine: Gravity crush (beaten) and now my vita is just sitting there maybe out of battery now cuz havent charged for months, forgot I even had one til I saw this thread. BTW GC uses all the psvita motion control gimmicks.

Also, how's your galaxy s4?

@Fehzor:
Isaac sounds like a great way to pass the time, I'll definitely check that out!

As for the missus, our marriage is on the 11th, and we're having a pretty good time in her home town. I've spent the past few days driving her motorcycle, weaving and boosting through lax traffic laws.

A couple of days ago, we were at the beach, watching the waves crash and the sun set, sharing the milk of a coconut.

She's sleeping in my lap right now. :]

@Faeyd:
I'm something of an omnivore when it comes to games, and I'll usually take whatever's good. That being said, I'm a fan of shmups, beat-em-ups, third-person/2D action in general, puzzley adventures, not so much a fan of RTSes but even then I liked Populus: The Beginning and Darwinia.

If the launch title was just the first Uncharted, then I've already played it on PS3, but I'll give it a look.

The S4 is alright. It's my first and only smartphone so I don't have a lot of base for comparison. I can no longer imagine a happy life in which I don't have it anymore.

algorithms are the solutions to any problem.

I did a little wiki search on the list of games that you can download. there's bastion and 1001 spikes.
you should also sleep. that helps pass the time.

I was going to suggest some gamedev, but I realise most gamedev IDEs probably don't on Linux. You always have your JS stuff, though. Nevertheless that'll require your laptop. If you can get an emulator going, there's always the most timeless game The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. Since I don't own either a Vita or a smortphoon I don't really know what's available for them natively.

Think it's time I dust off my PSVita. I did a search a few minutes ago and found out that the "Touhou Project" is coming to the brick (yes it feels like holding a brick with touchpads)

That sounds disgusting. You were much more relatable and friendly when you were sad and alone.

I'm happy for you.
