My opinions are given in the gunner section of my armor guide. I would get Seerus and Shadowsun. In fact, that's what I did before Chaos was buffed and Black Kat was introduced. Nowadays I would also consider Pathfinder, Shade, and Sentinel.

I'd just go back to using wolvers.
But if you have good uvs, the 'old' gunner sets are better.

No. The only incentive I have to get any form of gunner update gear right now is to combine with BKC for a +7 (or even +9 at best) shock resistand AND shadow resilient set for LD. Without BKC everyone would still be playing LD in Wolver gear, me included.

Can't you get +10 with bkc, shock armor, and shock max UV on both?
I get the gunner gear to provide some status defence and pair it with one of the black kat or chaos armor pieces, and a damage trinket for shadow lairs.

One can, but it's redundant as far as LD goes as you're immune to moderate statuses at +9.

Falcon Shade armor + BKC with
Falcon Shade armor + BKC with some ridiculously expensive UVs was the best armor combo I could find for lockdown. Immune to shock and freeze bombs, immune to freeze moderate status, and extremely resistant to moderate storm shock (1-2 spasm, with each spasm lasting about 1/4 seconds, not long enough for anyone to predict where you'll be and hit you)
It is only worth it if you get UVs as such, but standalone, no armor is better than the BKC and Chaos. The game is simply too easy for challenge to be introduced via status penalties.

A bit, but mostly about what they mean for future (content) updates and the reception they will get. With Chaos and BK sets being as good as they are, there is little to no reason to invest in any of the new gear.
If future armor updates get the same reception that the GU armor does do you think OOO will invest time in creating similar sets for Bombers and Sworders? When the GU came out there was a short lived hype about the armor (typical in MMOs for new gear in updates) but no lasting interest. If you created a vast variety of gear for your players to use and it almost immediately got ignored would you jump to work on new gear for the other weapon classes?

okay, but
Armor in this game is boring. It lets you survive one more hit, makes statuses a little less annoying, or helps you kill monsters slightly faster. It doesn't dramatically affect your play style. That's what weapons are for. The disappointing thing about the gunner update is not that the armor is unexciting, but that the weapons are unexciting tweaks to ones that already existed.
The other thing is that whatever content Three Rings releases is instantly gobbled up by players, who become impatient for more. Even if Three Rings released content at five times its current rate, it would not satisfy us.
