Some questions from a starting swordsman

Hi
I'm a relatively new player, and I'm looking for some advice about weapon and armor choice.
I'm planning on being a swordsman, and on using light to medium swords as my main weapons.

my current items are:

Dusker Coat (+high elem defense)
Wolver Cap (+medium poison defense)
Defender (+low elem defense)
Nightblade (+medium damage vs. Gremlin)
Searing Edge

I've abandoned the Searing Edge, and am now using the Nightblade as my main weapon and a Super Stun Gun as a ranged weapon.
I'm planning to add an elemental Brandish (haven't decided which one) and a Flourish, to cover all damage types.

Onward to the questions:

1. considering the I'm using fast swords, should I capitalize on speed with Vog Cub or offset my lower damage with Skolver armor and helm?
2. I'm close to being able to buy a Snarble Barb. Should I go with that line instead of the Flourish?
3. I'm planning on replacing my shield soon. I was planning on an Owlite, but the bristling shield line looks good because of the +damage. which is better?

Heres my 2 cents

Here's what i would do if i were you.

The Coat since it has a high elem def i might consider going for skolver, and maybe get another one to change into a vog. That way i got the skolver for farming JK runs for money, and a vog for FSC.
The Cap i would prob turn into a vog for FSC cuz of obvious reasons, and to combo with the skolver coat +elem when im doing JK.

I would prob use owlite for FSC cuz of the elem def and decent normal def, and bristling for JK cuz of piercing def and + dmg means i kill faster (JK runs are boring but u need the money so its good if you can do it faster).

I would go for snarble cuz it looks better while the stats are more or less the same with a flourish.

Elemental brandish? go for the ice one i guess since FSC are all fire, altho prob its better to level and use a DA to cover your elemental dmg since its also very useful in FSC. Especially the charge atk. Then again if you got lots of CE to spare (unlike me) why not make all of them :)

Thanks for the advice. I

Thanks for the advice.
I haven't gone deep enough for JK or FSC runs yet. Are those the main areas people go to at the higher (deeper?) end?
I'm currently mostly doing tier 1 and the upper strata of tier 2, trying to get crowns to upgrade my equipment. seems like anything below the tier 2 terminal is far too tough for me with the equipment I have.
As for a DA, it's not really an option right now, since I can't get a Sealed Sword until I can take out the Jelly King reliably.
Even if I do choose to go for it, (haven't had a chance to try the heavy swords yet), I still need a decent elemental weapon to use until I can get it. I don't think my Searing Edge will be useful below the tier 2 terminal. It's barely useful at the higher strata of tier 2.

If you are farming Crowns,

If you are farming Crowns, your best bet is actually going past the terminal. The reward for the depths before the terminal is access to Basil's recipes and a bit of crowns/heat. The reward for the depths beyond the terminal is lots of heat and crowns. If you have having difficulty though, go with a full party and play defensively until you are comfortable.

1. Your Dusker Coat can be upgraded either way as the UV High Elemental will stack on the Vog Cub Coat. The defensive resistance does not seem to be capped and will go beyond the visualization of the bar. Vog vs Skolver is a complicated topic, might check some of the other threads for further advise.

Good idea tossing the Searing Edge, its damage will drop off dramatically as you go lower. I'm trying out a Glacious for elemental damage now and really like it. It isn't as efficient as Leviathan or DA in FSC, but it works well enough for me to solo. The freeze is nice because you can stop a few zombies and concentrate on others. That said, the Combuster is going to give you a chance of fire that will deal passive damage. So outside FSC you can set something on fire then let it burn while you kill something else. In FSC you can light Trojans on fire and a couple random wolvers/jellies but that is about it. Both are excellent choices. Out of the two, Glacious is going to give you more mileage in FSC, if that is important to your decision making.

2. All of the Flourish/Snarble weapons are excellent. See this thread:

3. Owlite is probably the best defensively balanced shield in the game. I have lots of 5* shields and it is the one I carry the most. The only time I don't is when I'm in a T3 Fiend Strata, then it is Dread Skelly or Crest of Almire for me. On the other hand, if you want something offensively-oriented then you can't beat the Bristling Shield line with its sword damage boost. So... defensive go Owlite, offensive go Bristling.

Thanks for the advice

I find myself mainly doing tier 1 runs for crowns.
I can solo through it without too much of a problem, and I was doing Snarble runs to get enough tokens for the Snarble Barb anyway.
going with a party is problematic, since I don't actually know anyone who play this game and don't want to go with random people.

But isn't Basil a good source of crowns too? if I can buy a tier 3 or 4 recipe, I can probably sell it at a nice profit, no?

I just got the Barb today, so I might try going deeper into tier 2 next. I was avoiding it because of fiend levels, which my Nightblade was useless against.

I think I'll go with Owlite shield for now, and if I get enough tokens for a Bristling I'll get that too and see how they compare.

me again~~

Your gear is enough to do JK runs.

Just do 9 up to 16 at least in the JK gate for max amount of money gain, or just 15-16 if ure lucky :P
Also try do JK if your party is going to kill JK.

I myself dont find selling basil recipes very profitable, unless its a 5* recipe and a popular one at that.
Id rather just do JK runs over and over with my ash of agni for faster runs :)
