I believe you can see where I'm getting with this; it doesn't seem to matter whether I quit the program with the button, "X" it off in the corner, or end the command tree through Task Manager. It keeps popping back up.
It is DEFINITELY not updating.

Restarting my computer works, but it's a pretty big hassle if I wanna try playing the game (obviously, I cannot)

This occurs both when accessing through the website, or with the EXE from my desktop.

If you look for the

If you look for the launcher.log file in the Spiral Knights install location it should give more information.

i too have had this error

i got this error when i was attempting to find a way round the unexpected end of file from server error
(see post http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/12823)

it occured when i attempted to replace only some of the game files with the newer versions... (i forget which ones at this point)

i was able to close the window by clicking on the cross before it finished checking with the server.

My solution was to replace all of the game files with a copy of the client with the latest update already applied.

Having said that the problem was of my own creation.

As starlinvf has said the launcher.log file located in the spiral knights root directory should provide more detailed information on the error and posting it here may help us to solve your problem. it should be noted that this file refreashes each time the client is opened so there is no point in posting a copy generated after the problem is fixed.

As a last resort you could always try downloading the full client (aprox 500MB) from the link provided in the aformentioned post.
