I'm a newish gunslinger, been doing ever sense i hit t2, and now just got my 5* armor. I've been wanting a broader aresenal but not sure what to get.

right now i have:
-Strike Needle
-Biohazard
-Gigawatt Pulsar

me and my needle and pulsar have a love-hate relationship, so i was thinking about also getting a Nova Driver and a Callahan and maybe a Supernova for pure KB [knock back]

do you recommend these guns and also what others do you recommend and/or use.

Thanks.

Edit: im a pure gunslinger btw, also read post #8

There's no reason to get a Supernova if you're already on your way to a Polaris. In fact, there's really very little reason to get a Supernova at all.

The Nova Driver and Callahan are both decent guns. You might also look at getting an Umbra Driver.

Blitz > Callahan > Biohazard

Blitz > Callahan > Biohazard > Polaris
To me most decent loadout for pretty much anywhere (most of the time i use this loadout just some time i switch polaris to magma driver outside fsc due knockback)

Personally, I recommend a

Personally, I recommend a Hail Driver. It gives you a really good chance of freezing, making it very useful since you only get two shots. Umbra Driver is also a good choice gun.
I dont think their's any reason to use a Callahan. Piercing swords are just to efficient to not use a gun instead. Of course, if you must use a gun, Callahan is you're only option.
If you dont want to have knock-back against gremlins, than sure, get a Polaris. On the other hand, go for a Supernova. Gremlins are resistant to elemental damage.
Hope you find it useful!
-My setup
Hail Driver
Umbra Driver
Barbarous Thorn Blade
Grand Faust
Divine Avenger
Acheron
Glacius
Voltedge
Sudaruska
Blitz Needle(only for Vanaduke)

ALL OF THEM

My very first long-term goal in this game was to get a gun of every fire type. I've completed that goal, and it's been completed for a few months now, which gives me a lot of personal experience with the ins and outs of each weapon type. Guns have a lot of variety and really shine in specific situations, so I'd never recommend not getting another gun, of any type (Iron Slug excluded :/ ) since that new one will help you in situations where the others won't.

The weapons that you mention are all good, with the exception of the pulsar. As I'm sure you've noticed, if you're a primary gunner, you want all your shots to connect to keep your damage up, and pulsars do just the opposite with their huge knockback. I'd recommend a Valiance instead: reasonably high damage, fast 3-shot clip, and just enough knockback to keep advancing enemies (like FSC zombies) at a respectable distance. A lot of players recommend pulsars because a lot of players are swordsmen, and need the heavy knockback to manage crowds or kill turrets; as a gunner, though, it's actually not the best choice.

I definitely recommend the Callahan, as well. There aren't many piercing weapons in the game, but the ones that do exist are CRAZY against weak enemies. You can bring pretty much anything down to a wolver den these days, but devilites and greavers are still as powerful as ever, and the Callahan rips them up while allowing you to stay mobile. I'm always the last man alive whenever I run fiend strata, because I can shoot, dodge, shoot while weaving around all the chairs and bats. As always, it takes a little longer to go through a level this way than with the equivalent sword (which I've also tried), but I find it much, much safer.

I find Hail Driver difficult

I'm mostly into swords, so I'm not as experienced a gunslinger as some of the others here, but I'll just add that I find the Hail Driver very difficult to use. Namely, it freezes somewhat rarely, and it often unfreezes itself (on the next shot, or even on the ricochet shots?). You definitely can't spam the thing. Storm Driver seems easier to use, for example.

if you are having trouble

if you are having trouble with ur blitz then by all means get a callahan. but i strongly recommend practicing with your blitz more. once u know learn how to use it without getting hit, it`ll be your default piercing gun.

a nova driver is great, be sure to get one if you are going to keep on being a pure gunslinger. also practice with it so you can consistently spawn the ricochet inside your target (the nova can very easily out-dps a polaris). while we are speaking about the elemental alchemers, maybe you should also craft the status inducing ones. they are fun to use and they are definitely great for lockdown because of their high status inflicting chance.

if you have spare energy or is angry at your biohazard`s bullet speed, u can give the umbra driver a try.

don`t bother with normal guns if you are going to be a pure gunslinger; u need all the specialized damage u can get.

i got a collection of 5* guns (I don`t have the antigua lines, hail driver and all the normal damage guns).
my weapon loadout that i use most now-a-days:
nova, umbra, blitz

@OP

No offense to Slayzz, but Hail Driver isn't very good at all unless you solo all the time, in which I still think the Nova is better.
Nova Driver is a excellent gun; go for that.

I recommend you use the Strike/Blitz for Wolver Dens, as they're a pushover now.
Get a Callahan for the Devilites though, if you have to go all guns.

You seem to be OK with your Biohazard, so keep that if you like it.
If you're tired with it, go get the Umbra, which is another good shadow gun like the Bio.

Have used each 4* version of the weapons I've mentioned, except for the Umbra Driver.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the input

i find all of your input very helpful.
and @Arquebus i never really thought about the different situations each gun could be useful for. so i thought about it and thought about this:

gremlins- umbra
slimes- biohazrad
fiends- Callahan, blitz for Trojans
constructs- nova
beasts- blitz
undead-nova
and vialance for knock back

also i was wondering what status alchemers to get. i was thinking magma and storm

plus now im wondering if i should scrap my gigawatt (nothing really that lost was easy to get 400ce)

i also want your opinion on plaque needle

thanks all :)

for status alchemers: what

for status alchemers: what are u planning to do with them? if pve, get both. if pvp, focus on storm (but keep in mind that the magma hurts skolver kids 3 bars per tick...)
and keep ur gigawatt. u never know when u want to upgrade it to a polaris (just for pvp or just for vanaduke when soloing)

the plague needle is mainly a support gun as the poison won't compensate for the damage difference.

I'm a charge gunner. Basically the idea is that with manual aim, just aim a little off to the side of your target and the drivers will ricochet into the target itself, dealing somewhere along the lines of 700+ (i forget) damage to a single target.

You can basically two-shot turrets in 4-player FSC, and in the case of that one rocket room, kill it and have time to block the rocket.

The Blitz is there because it's a gun that works very well when charged.

Personally I use the Cryo and Shadow drivers.

Freeze is a great status as a frozen enemy is not a threat if it doesn't have line of sight, allowing better crowd control.

I disagree with Arquebus, most gunners need to exploit type difference, so a normal gun is not recommended. And I hate the magnus line, as you can't move and shoot.

True, but...

Even normal damage guns have their place, just not usually as DPS. Valiance in particular is the only gun in the game with its kind of knockback, and Neutralizer is a fantastic gun for soloing graveyards and FSC. Supernova has a very, very tight niche (where you need a pulsar, but not elemental or shock... some parts of IMF, maybe?), but is generally outclassed by Polaris, if you have to use a pulsar. Iron Slug is just bad, its place is in the garbage. :D

I personally use a Nova Driver, since it deals more raw damage. It's enough to reliably kill enemies one or two shots sooner, which is a big deal when you're doing ricochet tricks. Storm Driver is probably the next most useful, in my opinion, because you can rattle off another shot or two in the time it takes your enemy to recover from the initial shock, in both Lockdown and in dungeons. Umbra Driver's better in Lockdown due to the armor metagame, though.

I wouldn't bother with the Plague Needle. Autoguns are useful as boss killers or as horde sprayers, and either way, you're better off just doing more damage than trying to inflict a status, especially one as weak as poison. I recall reading elsewhere in the forum that you'd need two other blitzers to compensate for the damage you lose with the Plague Needle on Vana, assuming the poison is always on.

@Arquebus I wouldn't say

@Arquebus I wouldn't say there's anywhere in IMF that a Supernova would outclass a Polaris. In theory you might want one in the last arena area on the first level, but the corner shock traps mean that any sort of knockback weapon is going to electrify the quicksilvers, so you're really better off just spamming an Umbra or Biohazard.

I use Blitz Needle and Nova

I use Blitz Needle and Nova Driver. I don't use a Shadow gun because I can't stand Biohazard due to its slow bullet speed and Blitz Needle handles Gremlins just fine. I have a Silent Nightblade to deal with slimes, but if I wanted to do guns-only I guess I'd use Umbra Driver.

Yeah, l read the same thing

Yeah, l read the same thing about the Plaque Needle.

Also, agree with anti-Hail Driver comments. I have one, but the status, well.....It does no dmg unless the enemy thaws out, which is not gonna happen, as you're gonna hit it first.

Additionally, knockback is bad for dps.

Lol, forgot this...

Callahan line knocks down enemies, ensuring another hit. Pwnage against wolvers and gremlins (haven't tested vs. fiends yet)

My thoughts

Don't go Hail Driver; get Storm or Nova. Both of those can be used in FSC to optimum effectiveness, whereas with a Hail Driver you'll have to shoot slower. Shivermist and Glacius are better freeze weapons.

I'm not sure whether to recommend the Argent Peacemaker. It's a great gun in FSC (killing fiends and undead) but it's just average about everywhere else.

Gunslinger...

I go with a Nightblade (yeah yeah, not a pure gunslinger), Polaris, Callahan and Umbra Driver. I carry the Nightblade around because it has +dam vs Gremlin med and I have issues with the Gremlin dodge when using my Umbra Driver. Also, because I can kill bushes with the sword more easily than gun.

Not Polaris for gunner

@Scottish-Archer & Traevelliath You shouldn't use Polaris as a primary elemental gun. It is bad for that usage, as Arquebus already explained : the knockback lower your dps in most case. You could do much higher dps with an alchemer. And you wouldn't annoy your teamates with it too.
