2* Swords: Calibur vs Brandish charge attack

So I haven't used a plain 2* brandish for something like 6 months now, and I've honestly never had a calibur until the missions gave me one for free. I know I can obviously do my own testing for this, but I wanted to throw it out there just in case someone else already has.

My understanding is that against immobile targets the calibur charge attack should do more damage than the brandish. For mobile targets the brandish will presumably do more since the mob will ride the wave rather than just getting flung half way across the map with the first hit. So far so good: use the calibur for turrets and the brandish for other stuff.

The question then is: against large, basically immobile enemies, which is better? Presumably for Roarmulus the calibur will come out on top since the brandish explosions will get cut off (though I haven't experimented with doing the charge attack parallel to the wall to see if the explosions will fire and hit), but against the Royal Jelly which one would be preferred? I get the feeling that the explosions from the brandish might put it very close with the three hits from the calibur, as well as being easier to pull off without getting within headbutt range, but then the calibur will also clear minis who are creeping up behind me.

Note that I'm not interested in discussing any of the upgrades, only the 2* variants as they are. Obviously I know that the Acheron and Combuster will do massively more damage than the calibur and brandish combined against RJ and RT respectively.

Thoughts?

Each explosion only does 25%

Each explosion only does 25% of the damage of the swing, so even if all the explosions hit, the Calibur charge attack should do more.

Fang of Vog

Your general stationary vs. mobile dichotomy is right. Otaia is probably right about the big monsters. Keep in mind that CIV does less knockback than Levi, so it has a better chance of landing more hits, although the hits do less damage usually. Have you considered Fang of Vog instead of either?

RT =/= big monster

Based on my experience, I never be able 3-hit per calibur charge RT.

@Bopp When OOO comes out with

@Bopp When OOO comes out with a 2* version of the Fang of Vog you can bet I'll be using one. Until that day, though...

@Poopsie I've never quite figured out what the hitbox of RT is. I've heard people say that the ghost hit on the striker series doesn't hit, I wonder if that's related. I've noticed on the calibur charge that the sword actually only makes two complete rotations. The three hits only come into play for a target directly in front of you, which gets hit with the start of the swing, the middle, and then the end again. It could be only hitting twice due to your knight not facing directly at wherever the hitbox is.

Calibur

This is my opinion. The calibur has extreme knockback, which is good. You can take down up to 10 monsters at a time!
The brandish, well, does a tiny bit more damage (with the swings) but less damage for everything else. So my advice, use the calibur.
(i have tempered calibur and its going very well.)

Rexerr has been going around

Rexerr has been going around touting the op-ness of calibur lines. Don't bother.

@Rexerr Calibur line pretty

@Rexerr

Calibur line pretty much sucks when you get to 3*, as specialising begins. But at 2*, it's a good weapon for a beginner.

@Nicoya

So you're plannin' on doing the Twins with 2* gear?

Also, the Brandish explosions WILL hit the Twins, while the Calibur charge will only hit one strike, not 3.

Overall, (in my opinion) Brandish.

Talking about 2*, what about hot edge upgrade vs brandish?

@Rangerwill I'm gonna try to

@Rangerwill I'm gonna try to see how far the "Free" mission equipment will get me, basically. Cobalt set, Defender shield, Calibur, Brandish, Blaster and Blast bomb.

That's interesting that the brandish explosions hit the twins. Do you have to do the charge attack along the wall, or does aiming directly at them (as most people do) work?
