I'm not sure if anyone has come up with this one yet, but how about this? I know that the main idea behind the Spiral Knights has been to fix the ship and escape Cradle, but what if there was a small branch of knights that have gone rogue and want to take control of Cradle? There could be random missions and parts of Arcade where they appear and challenge you to a fight. If you win, you can get a lot of crowns, but if you lose, they'll steal some of your crowns.
