Air sword!

The concept:
A normal damage sword, with moderately low damage, and a spur like attack pattern. Said damage would be similar to a cold iron carver versus things that aren't undead. Ridiculously high knockback on normal hits- similar to that of an irontech destroyer! Charge attack would be a long sweeping blow (like the old proto sword charge), with 4 times the knockback of a big angry bomb (ridiculously high). The sword MUST MAKE ENEMIES FLINCH for it to be effective in the least. This will prevent griefing.

The strategy:
For use by gunners wanting a utility sword to protect them. It'd be able to push stuff back quite far, with its long sweeping motions, although wouldn't be the greatest damaging weapon to use for any real purpose- it would knock enemies back, making it convenient to attack with in that fashion. It wouldn't squash out other knockback weapons like sudaruska and gran faust due to its far lesser damage, and it would be potentially useful in lockdown against toothpick skolvers.

Other swords, like brandishes, could use the distance as well to help gather a charge- bombs as well.

The preferred implementation:
Said weapon should be obtained from the spur as an upgrade, obtainable as a clockworks recipe. This would allow a fair chance for it to be used in T2 lockdown as well as T3. This would also allow it to reuse the spur icon, which looks epic.

I say they bring back old spur attack pattern... make the charge like the one you define.. then I'd feel more wind from it.

But if not, then they should make this sword.

Agreed. Spur needs another crafting line to make the whole weapon tree more popular.

So, it's basically a crowd

So, it's basically a crowd control sword. We don't have many of those and this one sounds balanced enough.
Making it a new branch on the Spur line would also be epic.

Another Carnavon in my face?

Well, on one hand I would like something to keep enemies at bay.

On the other I'm not keen on jeopardizing my other teammates, sure, knockback is necessary, but having something with 4 times the KB of a BAB is just plain ludicrous. Not to mention I'd get a Carnavon in my teammate's face. Not very fun.

Tone down the KB a little; at best scale it to a Sudaruska but faster and with less damage. While I'm all for a new line on the Spur, this is a little over the top.

hmm

i have a BAB and its knockback is ridiculously hilarious, it sends enemies sliding past walls and corners faster than you can say OW MY LATENCY. but that doesn't mean there isn't room for something with four times the POWWWEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Pros and Cons

Again, a 5 Star option for the Spur line is long overdue but giving it such a plain insane amount of KB is quite frankly just not the way forward, I would recommend watering down the knock back to a reasonable level, maybe slightly more than the BAB at the very most, considering its a fast sword to begin with it would just get far to risky for your fellow knights. With knock back you have to think how it effects everyone, positive for you personally (if your a gunner/bomber) then yes, brilliant but for a teammate with a short ranged sword it's just plain irritating.

I would give this a 7/10.

Edit: If you ARE serious about this sword then think of drawing up some concept art and think of a snazzy name for it, maybe something like "Gale Edge" or "Tempest's Fist"?

Considerin' how fast the Spur

Considerin' how fast the Spur line already hits, you can just have the knockback be applied to it's third hit, and it'd work out pretty well. I mean, even a Leviathan Blade doesn't send enemies flying around unless it's smacking them with it's third hit or charge attack.

i think this idea is pretty good I give it +1 because I really miss spur it looked like it Was soooo good until people realized it didn't have a 5* version so they say its poo or the ruder crap so i give this 10/10!

I don't think I should have

I don't think I should have the right to draw up concept art of it. Its not my place to put artwork into the game, its Ian's. It wouldn't all be continuously made to fit if I did. But if I were to, it would be something along the lines of a white looking spur. Perhaps going from white to grey to black, as it got to 5*. That'd look epic.

Merp.

Hey people, you can cast your votes now and name the 5* Spur! Or don't vote, if you don't want to necro that old thread. Up to you. >_>

Anyway, the idea of an air sword is pretty interesting. My only issue with it is that it seems to make shield bumping obsolete. I guess the tradeoff is that you'd have to have this thing occupy another weapon slot, but still.

It's a neat utility weapon.

It's a neat utility weapon. Just like how the Polaris is a swordies utility weapon, and a toothpick is often a good bomber/gunner utility weapon, some weapons don't have to fit the "norm" for their class.

i like the idea, but couldn't you come up with a better name other than air sword? a better name would be something like wind turbine, or hurricane

i think there should only be a 5 star version of the weapon since it will only be a useful utility in tier 3, and it could be a 5* spur

I think it could probably

I think it could probably work best as a five star version for the Spur. Not that it'd be the "ultimate" version of it, but it'd be a weaker but handy Spur at 5 star.

That is, whenever they actually make a five star Spur item.

A bit overkill but AWESOME!

Its quite a bit overkill but its really effective if you tune down the knockback to about a Leviathan's knockback and thats about going it and it will probably get created by the GMs

Sword version of Pulsar

Melee like a hurricane.

This would essentially outclass Big Angry, Troika lines, Leviathan charge, and Valiance charge for knockback; for most of those it is their main characteristic for tactical use. Yes, Valiance has been somewhat recently updated to have knockback on the charge by a few spaces. This proposal would especially overshadow Big Angry, the well known knockback king. Back to Valiance; all of its attacks, whether basic or charge, knocks the target back. The basic attack only knocks back about half a space, but that is half a space more than a Peacemaker or Blitz. It seems to have been designed for support gunning tactics, flicking targets off the user or an ally with a quick shot then switching to another weapon to attack. Pulsar dominates Valiance in long distance knockback for groups but is often used by less than competent gunners who see fit to spam its basic attack on anything everywhere forever.

For those who want to read about a weapon which uses magnetism see here.
