not only it provides damage bonus vs fiends, it also provides an additional low defense against fiends. this is shown while wearing a fallen whilst having a valkyrie or divine veil. the fallen set usually gives out medium minus damage and defense vs fiend, valkyrie and divine veil cancels out the damage penalty, and makes the defense penalty low instead of medium.

this could probably be true to those family damage bonus armors (e.g. chroma line), but there are no armors that have negative resistance to support it. i would wish that OOO would reveal this in the wiki.

Do you understand what a wiki is?

see wiki article "Abilities"

See the wiki article "Abilities", to learn how abilities add up. Once you understand this aspect of the rules of Spiral Knights, it will be unremarkable that Damage Penalty Medium + Damage Bonus Low = Damage Penalty Low.

He's talking about the bug where if a medium penalty and a medium bonus cancel each other out it becomes damage bonus low

Does it actually function

Does it actually function though, this damage bonus low? Or is it just kind of there on the display? Cuz I know the display is buggy....

I know it displays but I'm not sure if it actually does anything.

Divine Veil/Valkyrie Set =

Divine Veil/Valkyrie Set = Damage VS Fiends Medium, but none of it said it was also defense.
Fallen Set = Damage Penalty VS Fiends Medium, this includes defense penalty vs fiends.

Divine Veil/Valkyrie + Fallen = normal damage vs fiends, defense penalty vs fiends low

see how the divine veil/valkyrie set took out fallen's weakness vs fiends by a level?

i don't know if that point is getting through you guys.

okay, now I confirm this weird behavior

Trying, you're saying that Divine Veil + Armor of the Fallen, which should have damage bonus None vs. fiends, instead has damage bonus Low vs. fiends? Wow.

Reiyu, is that what you mean? You mean to use the word "damage", where you've been using "defense"?

Edit: I just realized that I have these pieces. (I'm not too bright.) When I equip them, the display on my swords is interesting:

  • I have a weapon with a fiend Low UV. That weapon ends up with damage bonus Low, as one would expect.
  • On my weapons that have no damage bonus UVs, I end up with a net damage BONUS Low, but with a down-arrow that indicates a damage PENALTY. That is, the display contradicts itself.

My suspicion is that these armor pieces really do cancel each other exactly, but that there is a bug in how the cancelling is displayed. In fact, there is a note at the wiki page "Abilities" about this, but I haven't realized exactly what it meant until now. Reiyu, I'm sorry that I misunderstood you; thanks for pointing this out.

Same thing happens to handgun ASI with Mask of Seerus and Ancient Plate.

But for some reason, Mercurial + Ancient is fine. The bonus/nerf cancel each other and neither show.

i'm starting to think this is

i'm starting to think this is a bug. i benchmarked some damages and i don't think the defense applied at all.

You keep talking about defense and repeat what everyone already poined out....

Are you ignoring everyone else's posts? Do you understand proper english?

wait, sorry.

my apologies for not explaining well, i'm not the best at relaying information, but here's more explanation for my theory. i've not ignored anything, i tried confirming what others said through benchmarking..

when i still saw "Damage Penalty vs Fiends Low" it had an effect in my mind that it could have been defense, because the fact stays that the sword/bomb/gun damage cancelled out along with valkyrie/divine veil, so what else could it be aside from defense?

i actually only have crown of the fallen, and i would want someone to benchmark fallen set vs valkyrie set and run around in an office theme clockworks and see which of those two get more damage.

i need help from someone to confirm this. please and thank you.

I think Bopp is right.

I think Bopp is right.

@Reyiu: where did you get "defence" from anyway? I think your mind is a bit TOO open...

i'm gonna repeat myself the 2nd time:

How do you get fiend defense

How do you get fiend defense bonus low from Damage Penalty vs Fiend: Medium and Damage Bonus vs. Fiends: Medium cancelling each other out? Opposites negate eachother, its called Annihilation. There's absolutely no reason that there has to be an unrelated byproduct.

@Dukeplatypus:
obviously opposites negate each other, but this one does not negate each other. just read Bopp's post, or just simply wear them and you'll see what i mean. just by reading this and having one troll on the board like Trying makes this topic more difficult to understand.

@Trying:
it could be absolutely nothing, yet it shows something that should not be ignored. it could be a bug, and this would probably need GM intervention to solve. deceiving status bars leads to misunderstandings like these, a great example would be gran faust's attack speed.

It is a bug and it has been reported multiple times. End of story.
There is no magical fiend defense and if I hadn't posted everyone else would still be think you're spouting nonsense.

so it's a bug.

@Trying: you could have said that in the first place instead of talking like a jerk.

i'm moving this topic to bug reports.

I actually had a similar effect with some shock status

I have Mad bomber helm (no shock uv) and an volc demo armor with shock low uv. When i combine these it displays a zero shock penalty (when it should be low). If memory serves me correctly, then it also adds into my armor display my poison UV from my COSTUME HELM. Maybe i'll try and recreate it and take a screenshot. Since it's basically a similar glitch+some additional stats from my costume armor which is just ridiculous.
