The idea is that a party can switch a gate at Moorcroft or Emberlight in it's own private arcade. If a player opts to leave or is kicked out, S/He will join the 'public' arcade, similar to the one at Haven. the difference is, however, by right-clicking another player a 'Join' option can be selected to join the party; or the player may go down solo.

Just the opportunity to go through all bosses.
The way SK is, it's rare to get three bosses in one raid. Yes, it would be a nice idea to switch gates but keep vitapods and such. I didn't think about the achievements, but I agree with you: switching gates should violate someone's achievements, unless he is kicked out or willingly leaves but still goes down the same gate.

I guess that would work. Might get a few people to start jumping back into the clockworks to try marathon boss runs lol :P
Usually you pick a gate because it has depths you want to go through... Are you suggesting this so you can effectively switch parties/gates while keeping the pickups (vitapods, pills, vials)?
Nothing against it, but as long as you lose the ability to gain the Dauntless Delver and Cradle and All achievements when you switch, I'd be alright with it. Otherwise you can just swap your way through the easiest gates available to get the achievement.
