Are swords still the "best"?
So it seems about equal, and that's good.
Just need bomber and gunner shields now.
I still think Swords are slightly better than guns, mainly because their armor line is easier to get and effective early to late game.
Bomber armor stays Elemental (I believe), which is bad around T2 where the main source of crowns is the RJP. Gunslinger doesn't start until 3* which is harder to acquire for T2 players.

I have experience for all types of combat, and I would have to vote in as mixed
seerus hammer asivh, shivermist ctrvh, biohazardCTRmed, polaris with penta hearts, and really anything of the armor that protects fiar against the stratum

I agree Rangerwill, even if the finished 5* product has some decent resists with only +DMG low.
It has bothered me for a long time (esp pre shadowsun buff) that there have been 101 ways for gunners to boost ASI, yet +DMG pieces have been limited at best, especially if you dont roll with 2x trueshot as I once remember you saying you diddnt play with trinkets ( or was that Fossafox of the OG master gunslinger thread?)
EDIT~ The +ASI low on PM of S always felt like a troll to me too as such I have boycotted the item on principal.

My theory is that when OOO made the game they intended for each class to have it's own optimal bonus. CTR for bombs, ASI for guns, and damage for swords.
Luke is clearly psychic and agreed with me before I even posted.
Swords are still better. Brandishes for PVE and toothpicks for PVP. It will take more than a 10~20% buff to change that.
It did help equal out the classes though. More for bombers than gunners, however, as the overall bonus benefits guns inconsistently.

Tell that to the Radiant Sun Shards, Blitz Needle, Umbra Driver, and Nova Driver for PvE. Hammer is insanely effective in PvP and so are alchemers and the RSS.
I'm pretty sure a brandish cannot kill 4 or 5 slag walkers on ONE charge. Radiant Sun Shards can, however.

Um...lolwut? O.o The only gun I've seen that would really benefit from ASi is Callahan. Most other guns fire fast enough already.
On-topic: Swords still do more damage, at least against single opponents, but guns and bombs are now a more viable option.
Now its more a matter of preference than anything. Swords are still good, but guns (especially Sentenza/Argent) are now incredibly effective.
Swords are still superior as a general purpose weapon, but bombs and guns definitely got a nice boost. I happen to carry at least 2 weapon types at all times, and sometimes all 3. Once I build my complete chaos set, I'll have a really nice setup for all 3 weapon types at once.
Swords do the highest DPS to single targets, and pretty much all of them provide good knockback. Only a few guns provide good knockback, and no bombs give great single target DPS.
However, I will say that now with the damage bonus, I sometimes feel like my sword is useless if we run into 1-2 monsters in a 2-man party. If a gunner is on his game with his Argent Peacemaker he can take out the monster before I even get to it.

To be fair, from experience, a well placed RSS does catastrophic if not fatal damage to most enemies, even if they are the particularly resistant to piercing/elemental slime family. Of course, boosts from bomber gear only makes it worse for the poor buggers.

Like most everyone has said so far, swords are still more or less the norm. Even as a bomber, I have a hard time imagining doing anything without at least one normal sword (don't care what anyone says, my Triglav and Dread Venom are awesome and fun to use).
I can't speak for guns though because I am terrible with them and don't own many, although Biohazard is fun.

I was with you Doctor, it got a little messy. Bombs are a valid choice for sure. Guns are too, an AP can SHREAD through zombies and cats now in one combo, and is almost as useful in the UIMF.

Blitz needle does more damage than any weapon in spiral knights.its max damage is 3225 versus beasts and fiends.
Swords will still have much higher single target dps, although offensive bombs should now be able to properly eclipse them against large groups of enemies. As for guns, the Autogun line got a massive bonus from this update, and the Alchemers will no doubt be a lot better. On the whole though, I don't think a lot of guns will be a whole lot better. Essentially the guns people already use will be buffed, and the guns people don't use probably won't see anymore play.
I am curious however, to see if the Catalyzer line gets a boost in use, given the buff.
