I reading the forums today, while listening to Perfect Insanity (a song by Disturbed) and i suddenly get this idea. Wouldn't it be cool to be able to play custom music in Spiral Knights?

Don't get me wrong, i love the Spiral Knights music. Its just that other people (myself included) might want to turn off the preset music and switch on their saved custom music, instead of having to open up a browser (for me that's Firefox) and have to constantly go back to the browser to change the music again, leaving you open to attack if you take too long.

It'd be cool to be able to put in a variety of music into the game, whether it be country, rock, rap, metal or anything, it'd all be saved into OOO's massive player account storage (where they keep all your info).

Hope to see what you guys think.

Eh...

Why don't you just make a playlist on Youtube or something? It seems strange to me that you would suggest turning SK into a music management program.

Is it that hard to turn on an music player and turn off SK music (leave sound effects)? Also, the new music would have to be either made by OOO or... bought.

You already can.

Turn off the game music and just leave itunes/spotify/youtube/whatever on in the background. That's been my method for the last year.

This sounds like a whole lot of work to program for not a lot of good end result, especially since you can simply mute and play a background music, as others have said.

As Lug would put it:

Profits OOO? N

Sorry. I like the idea, but its really not that hard to do it the way almost everyone does it.

To be fair, the sound files

To be fair, the sound files for the game are stored client-side and not server-side. So if you worked a little magic and finesse, hypothetically this is already possible; just not allowed based off of OOO's ToS agreement.

To be clear

A custom playlist wouldn't allow you to put specific music for specific areas -.- I've been playing Guild Wars 2 a lot and there you have the ability to add custom soundtracks when requirements are met, for example a battle music is triggered when fighting more than 5 enemies at once, and a roam music is triggered when out of combat and roaming. Wouldn't it be nice if you could mod a little with the SK soundtracks as well? I'm actually curious about whats inside that soundtrack.gm file...

does anyone here even read these things

Sound files actually, on some computers, are stored as ogg vorbis files in the game's rsrc. But not a lot of computers handle ogg vorbis.
