looking for an easier way to determine what * lvl a knight is with looking at social list

Inspect them, it shows their rank and you can see if they have a significant amount prestige by whether or not they have a badge by their name. Use your noggin and math out the rest. If they're on your social list, you could just ask them if they're someone like a guildmate, you should know the general skill of the people on your friends list.

Another suggestion was raised that instead would let a user attach notes to individual knights on the social tab, which may be a more solid solution, giving users a wider pool of possible options to tag knights with.

This seems to be what Niichi refers to.

I remember responding to a recreation of the above thread with how your list of friends are supposed to be known to yourself, seeing as this is not a social network like Facebook where no one cares if you friend everyone you see everywhere forever. This was followed by commenting on independent text programs such as Notepad and Word which can be used to log people on your friend and guild lists and attribute notes to them as seen fit. I remember eating something orange afterward.
