i was thinking of getting Divine Veil and Mercurial Mail as they protect against every damage type. my question is if there is any inconveniences (or however you spell it) to a sword (nightblade line and striker for shadow defence) and mist bomber (freezing vaporizer line) other than getting more damage to any type than just having multiple armor for each situation.
armor loadout question
It is indeed a general defence loadout, with emphasis on shock resist, some fire, and some curse. You have a fiend med, which allows your striker to deal with devilites and trojans somewhat easier. Your bomb will not benefit from it directly, since there is no ctr.
Having an armour for each situation will be better than and general loadout you plan. What you usually don't want is damage vs family. Those boosts do not stack over maximum damage on your weapons, assuming you will have damage boosts from armour or trinkets. And having the right damage type to each family is much more important.
So the only inconvenience would be the lack of normal damage, which most enemies deal even up to T3, and lack of weapon bonuses. There really isn't any inherent weakness in any general loadout besides the lack of resistance, weapon bonus, and specialized defence.
by shadow defense i mean fiends and undead.i didn't notice that i forgot my shield. my shield is great defender right now though i plan on replacing it as soon as i can think of a better shield (probably the snarbolax one). i chose quicksilver mail as it goes well with the look i was looking for (does that even make sense?) and grater piercing defense and the speed increase seems more appealing to my playstyle. switching out striker is probably a good idea though, but it'll need some thinking on what to replace it with (i mainly got it because it is fast and normal). also i only have 2 weapon slots for reference, i just switch out depending on the level.(i think that answers everything)
the main reason for me going the veil is because shadow defense and fiends a really annoying. oh and i also have an elemental cloak for elemental levels.
A lone mercurial bonus is almost non-existant. Unless you really like the shock resistance, I'd suggest wolver or regular jelly.
Easier to get recipes and you'd win another small bonus towards a different status instead of stacking shock (freeze or stun respectively).
the jelly mail's sleep is irrelevant in-game (plus a low uv vs. stun on my helm. or is my helm the low piercing one? oh well.) and i prefer shock resist to freeze resist. the only reason to get skolver is the sword bonus witch i guess would be handy.
i guess ice queen would be good, but i would have to get through a shadow lair
by shadow defense i mean fiends and undead.
So you mean: offense against the monsters that resist shadow. In that case, I really, really recommend piercing swords. They are insanely good against fiends (and beasts), and actually quite good against undead and gremlins too, because they're fast, wide, and long. Alternatively, you could go with an elemental sword. That's better against undead, but worse against fiends, and fiends are the harder family.
Remember that you can always wear a costume over your armor. Many sworders wear Wolver armor with costumes because we just can't have everyone walking around in Wolver all the time.
nightblade line and striker for shadow defence
I didn't understand this. Nightblade is a shadow sword. Striker is a normal sword. How does shadow defense happen? Anyway, you're wondering whether this loadout is any good?
* Divine Veil
* Mercurial Mail
* some unnamed shield
* Nightblade
* Striker
* Freezing Vaporizer
That loadout should work well. I would replace Striker with a piercing or elemental sword; once you have more than one sword, there's no point to have any normal in there. I would replace Mercurial Mail with Skolver --- similar damage protection, but now you have freeze instead of more shock protection, and you get a big fat sword bonus.
