Allow us to have polls of the forums. Maybe in the suggestions it could automatically make it, and then allow for this to be a sortable thing in the thread list. (This would make it MUCH easier to keep track of the +1's, +0's, and -1's.) Furthermore, this could free up the rest of the thread for discussion on the suggestion, instead of many meaningless/spammy +1/0's and -1's.
Although I'm mainly thinking of this for the suggestions forums, it could be for other forums, though I think this would help the suggestion forums the most.
Old topic, worthwhile concept; though I question why most of the decent suggestions recently have been reformatting instead of new equipment, enemies, etc.
The first issue would be flaming/trolling/hating/whining. A lot of people like to be stupid. Not just stupid, but begrudgingly idiotic. There are people who would chop off their fingers to spite their arms. They are very silly. Regardless, they exist and will interfere with the system. How? Imagine the famous guild stuff thread with all of its supporters and what not. Now imagine someone with derpbillion alternate accounts. Now imagine they are downvoting it until it has negative derpbillion votes. Now imagine that same person is urinating on the thread. How do we prevent this? The ability to vote would have to be earned through experience in the forum, specific to the subforum; having decent reputation in one subforum does not contribute to any others. How would reputation be obtained? It would be entirely situational. It could be given to forum regulars to start things off who upvote things to start the cycle, but there would be playing favorites involved; unless they simply give everyone credit to start with but that would reward the derpbillion-alternate-troll-robot-not-wearing-pants. Do you want to reward people for not wearing pants?
The second issue would be self supporting. Back to the derpbillion alternate guy. They make a topic for a predictably unintelligent topic, such as healing weapons or dual wielding without even attempting to balance any of it. They then get their derpbillion alternates to upvote it until it tops everything else. Did they deserve those votes? How would we know, the voting system would be anonymous; unless it was not. Yes, a public vote; it would show the numbers, but by choosing to see the list of names on either side it would show which users are in favor or against the thread. Never heard of any of those derpbillion alternates? Not a problem, officer.
The third issue would be personal friction. Imagine if Fehzor/Psycho/Mana-Schatten/other well known and competent user made a thread one day and it was awful. Not irony awful, but serious awful. Seerus business. What would you do, downvote it? If everyone can see the names then they will know you were against the awful idea. Now they hate you. And your dog, too. It keeps liquiding on the walls. What if I took myself seriously when I make up nonsense while standing in front of the auction when I do play? In fact, just today I was blathering on about a new weapon: all you do is grab one of the helicopter birds in town, weld it to your shield, and you have a flying-spinning-fluffy-death-weapon-of-death which deals bird type damage which does quadruple neutral damage to everything. What could anyone say about that? What could I say about that? No more drinking while typing, for one thing. On the other side of the table, imagine the derpbillion horrible pitches for healing weapons/dual wielding/whining for new content/threads that try to take the role of the whole subforum/other stupid shenanigans and the idiots/kiddies/squares who pull them out of their nostrils. Any of them could potentially create the next expansion/enemy/weapon/armor/shield/something so amazing it makes everyone liquid themselves, but that one bad experience wards them away from the forum and game entirely. They may be too sissy to accept the truth, but prissiness does not equate to uncreativity.
The fourth issue would be deciding at what point it deserves to be implemented. Where do we stop, until it hits space? Something can be liked until it has grandchildren, but that does not mean Three Rings is going to make a commitment.
