Hello everyone,

I'm a bit new to the forum, I think this is either the first or second time I've posted somthing in here.
I've recently seen a lot of threads(through searching google) going on about the price of CE and things OOO can do to help low levels,
so I've decided to throw in my 2 cents and give you guys a small alternative that I have not seen many people suggest at all called material trading.

I was thinking of writing a big wall of text here but instead decided to write a site:
http://nexaguide.site40.net

Personally I think this guide/concept can help lower levels gain crowns and experience in a faster rate, and without any interference of OOO, and can also improve the general idea that some people have of the Spiral Knight Auction house trading system.

Why a site?
-I am also training myself in html , PHP and java so this was a usefull exercize for me.

I apologize for any spelling/grammar errors I might have overlooked here and on the site, for english is my 3rd language.

I am eager to hear people's opinions and have a discussion :3

With kind regards,
Nexafor

Interesting guide, however i

Interesting guide, however i want to ask about the difference between going to the auction house and using the chat system to trade or buy. I've always seen the area around the auction house full of people and also the chat going crazy with "selling mats for cheap prices!!!" And also is crafting a full item then putting it up for auction house better or is selling the mats better in terms of profit for a player that doesn't spend money on SK at all. (im tryin make tons of crowns to hop from 1 star weapon to 3 star weapons) Also could u teach me coding?

Thank's for you time

Thanks for the replies

Thanks for the replies :D,

@Luguiru, I will remember that and it won't happen again. Thank you :3.

@Blacked

Usually when you trade with people from player to player (so without the auction house), both parties will want to get a good deal for you this means a high price for the item you want to sell, for the other person a low price for the item he wants to buy. Here you already start with a contradiction.
usually this type of trade is made on a agreement for a final price between both players and therefore tends to be tricky, because the selling party may agree to a lower price if you ask or may dismiss the trade. This also means that the chance to sell items is decreased because the buying party (customer) can also dismiss or ignore your offer at any given time they see fit.

At the Auction house, things lye a bit different. Firstly you have a bigger crowd. Why? Because the people that shout on the market square generally tend to sell expensive and/or specific items, while most of us require regular items such as swords/guns/bombs/helmets etc. and the prices from the market square tend to vary. Most players also check the auction house first before they look at the market square/(people infront of the auctionhouse) because usually every item you will need up until 4* can be bought at the auction house, and usually prices at the auction house are quite competitive, so buying at the auction house will usually result in a good trade. The other advantage is that you can set your auction up for up to 2 whole days meanning hat while you are asleep for +/- 20 hours of those two days the auction house is still selling your items. So the chance to find somone to buy your item is even bigger, because you do not need to be physically there to trade the item. And as said in the guide at some point the cheapest items during the day are sold out and at that point your item is the cheapest and will likely sell.

Now up to the materials/items. The thing with materials in the auction house is that prices not only vary but tend to be high for some general materials especially compared to street vendors(other players trading materials infront of the auction house, because as stated in the first paragraph the seller wants a high price while the buyer a price as low as possible), and as you progress troughout the game you will gain more and more materials. Basically every level you do you will gain materials and you will most likely not use much of what you gain (unless you are an item forger which i will eplain after this), and from this you can make a profit. I myself sell 5 to 10 units of a few types of materials every time I everything is sold.
this way the market is not spammed (because I sell per 1 unit), and with the right materials I can make profits up to 3000 or more crowns a day, purely from the auction house. The amount of materials and amount of auctions is what increases your chance of selling, this together with a reasonable price and low auction fee sould get you quite far into the game. I suggest you experiment by making a few auctions and playing around with prices/functions,
follow the suggestions on the guide and that sould help you improve your auctions.

Item forging it a bit riskier and generally more expencive. Its riskier because all the high value items of 3* cost 200 crystal energy and 2500 crowns to make which is an initial investment of 18000 crowns(as of this point price of ce may value in the future), and when you craft an item specifically for the auction house and set a good price it does not guarantee a sell. This goes together with a high auction fee, +/- 10% of auction bid/buy price.
And most important of all if you are wanting to forge items as a beginning player you would mostly be dependent on 1, 2 or maybe 3 items at a time since 2* cost 50 energy to make. So it is a bit of a gamble there. I once tought I was going to make it big by forging snarble barb's (because they cost around 30k on auction house) so I bought it but had to unbind it which at the time costed me 16.000 cowns (200 energy) I put it up for 25.000 crowns and had to pay 2500 crowns to the auction house only to not sell after 2 days and sell it for 10k at a 6k crowns loss. So unless you have some crowns to spare I would not advice this method for beginning players. Items usually are bought once and then upgraded so the player doesnt need to rebuy an item while materials are gone when crafted so there is always a demand :).

If you want to learn coding here are a few links for you :P:

http://w3schools.com/
Start with Html (used for making the site itseld embed images and buttons )
and after that try java script(used for making widgets and site utilities)
and PhP (which is used for making forums)

I use this editor:
http://www.htmlkit.com/download/#download-html-kit-292

play around with it and read everything on w3schools carefully.
Also have a look at site templates and their structure to understand how to make more pages and how buttons and other work.

To put your site online you need an FTP server which you get from your webhost after setting up a domain.
I myself use http://www.000webhost.com/ and http://filezilla-project.org/ as an FTP connector.

Do a bit of research on theese ;).

I apologize for this massive wall of text and i hope this is of use to you.

Happy trading and happy coding :P

Good show! You aren't even a native English speaker! It actually took me a while to figure this all out on my own, and after seeing your guide it made me wonder why wasn't there a guide for it already?

One thing: this doesn't necessarily belong in suggestions. Actually it should be going on the wiki. I also recommend you find an editor to polish it up a bit. *hint hint* ;) Oh, and nice job on the HTML! I know some basics, but I typically use SeaMonkey for HTML. Knowing HTML has helped me on these forums, though. :P (My gosh, Three Rings needs to switch to PHPBB. No more long url tags!)

Lovely guide, especially since English is your third language. Decent information as well, definitely the basics to selling things.

Thank you both for the kind

Thank you both for the kind comments :D.

@Autofire
I'll definitely have a look at the wiki, and I will recheck my text and try to fix as much grammar and spelling as possible.
I've had a quick look at SeaMonkey and it looks quite interesting. Thanks for linking me to it :D!

Personally I don't mind the long URL tags as long as they are hyperlinks.
Can you imagine if we had to copy/paste every URL someone posted here like most forums do O.O?

an update

Here's a small update:

As was suggested by Autofire I have added the article to the wiki:
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Auction_House_and_Trading_guide_for_Beginners

Is this the right way to do it? Or do I have to change fonds, sides etc?
