With missions, I think the idea of making new mission types that expand parties to a bigger number of people could work out. OOO already has the tendency to spam monster mobs (as seen in Ghosts in the Machines) so these new big party missions could have a lot of that plus bigger, badder, enemies. The new prestige missions also have bigger maps, so that could help out too. MAEK EET HAWPEN OOO!!!!
Missions with the capability of expanding parties to 8 people.
Announcement! There is a new thing in the world called lag, it was discovered by video game player Serell who died continuously in video games due to a problem in the system. This was caused by a party expansion which caused the server to "lag".
Ok, enough of that XD. Basically no, because it will cause a huge amount of lag.
LD supports more than 8 players, just saying (but no monsters!)
larger missions that support larger parties would be kinda cool but as always lag presents a serious problem - more players means more data, larger mobs also create huge amounts of data which in turn, you got it, makes the game lag even more for those of us not directly linked to the amazon cloud via fiber optic cable :)
its doable, and it would be nice to play with bigger groups of people from time to time, especially if the mobs/traps are ridiculously difficult without help - but i believe that the majority of people wouldn't play simply because it would lag quite a bit more then regular gameplay - trying to judge the positions of monsters 1-2 seconds ahead of their current location is hard enough! (no seriously wheres the Oceania server at?)
Agreed, I have to make sure I get off of spikes 3 seconds before they ACTUALLY go back up. If I don't and I trust what I see I'd be dead in a second. What I see is about 3 seconds behind what is ACTUALLY happening. Don't even get me started about an 8v8 match in lockdown. My Perspective: I can SEE that I'm hitting that stupid gunner with my Gran Faust but he never takes any damage. Gunners Perspective: WTF is that guy trying to hit? (AKA I'm actually like, 20 steps away from him)
^ Suggesting that players get a better computer is not a viable solution and it never will be. You need money for a new PC, not to mention investing time in finding one that's right for you. And I don't think anyone is going to buy a new PC simply to play a game so you can lag less often. A better ISP is a little less expensive and quite a bit more conveniant, but that also takes time.
Anyway, back on topic: I wouldn't mind having a bigger team than 4 people, but I wouldn't want more than 5 or 6. I mean, there is such thing as overcrowding.
Things is where's the challange.
None of the current enemies justify such big party. And shadow lairs/danger missions are already flooded with 10 enemies for every walkable tile.
8 players, reviving each other, raining doom with polarises, multiple brandishes, alchemers and mist bombs of every status...
And please, dont just say "increase their helath and damage"
If anything, some sort of split mission, where 4 players start on one side and the other 4 on the other, and they have to meet in the center.
Either you can get a computer with HD Internet like I got.
Or you can download some more free Internets from your ISP and maybe some anti-lag systems if you can figure out how to do that (hint, use Googel, it's not so hard).
... Lrn2compute. *Looks over at Serell*
Bring in the octa-parties, I say!
8 people was just too many. Unless the game get wider map and more challenging.
I got a great computer and probably could handle 8 people, I'm just thinking of others.
I'm still neutral to this idea.
Also, Bing is far superior to Google.
You should probably download some more RAM.
(Why Bing?)
What if developers want to make all of the game content avialable for everyone, no matter where they live or how old is thier computer.
Of course they could make a monstruous game that only runs on the latest system, but they'll lose players... and $$$.
So let's stop that argument.
...you use Bing? e.e
@OP: I would not be opposed to the idea, provided it only came in larger, more difficult missions that required further cooperation than could be found in a four-man party. However, the lag that this would probably induce would be crippling to people who are running the game on older computers. I myself am using a 2-year-old laptop, and it's already starting to suffer.
Unless OOO do something about the issue of lag (removing particle effects on Low quality, amongst other things), then this is not going to be viable for players who are already having difficulty with the current game.
Besides, can you even imagine how much of a headache you'd get with 7 trolls in a party spamming Polaris?
You don't know what RAM is, do you? It's not something you download, it's a stick that plugs into your motherboard. Besides, having extra RAM probably won't fix a lag issue in old machines.
Remember, Software =/= Hardware.
can somone explain to me how lockdown works with 6 guys and not to much lag. just asking.
@Blandaxt, Because LD doesn't have 20 other entities (monsters) that need to be displayed to everyone.
8 people is way too much. Imagine, more players will cause the l-a-g-g-y disease. Just no
-1
a way for two parties to interact without having to be on the same level. like sending a wave of players to beat this huge wave of monsters, then they die, and they get no respawn. then another wave of players go again to try to finish the wave of monsters off. they dont play together but they interact.
Zeni.
I downloaded some more RAM yesterday man, works fine... I think it is you who doesn't quite know what RAM is... Check your facts.
lag would make the game so much harder. if you have an awesome PC and connection then you should be able to do it.
if you don't, then just lock the party and invite 3 ppl and no more! we're not FORCING you to go all out with a party of 8.
and also if you do this, at least triple the monsters O.o no health increase though.
If you just "downloaded RAM," you should probably check your computer for viruses.
You increase the amount of RAM you have by plugging in more sticks, not from downloads. You should check your facts.
Oh no, no. You all better check your facts here guise. 8DDDD
If the game doesn't implode due to lag (which is by all means a valid concern), then I'm all for this happening... larger levels, specifically for guilds, would be a great addition to the game. They'd have to be designed around the idea of a larger number of players; the ones we currently have are designed for 3-4, with consideration for 1-2 players, and even then can get a bit messy with 4 people going. Consider also that more players = stronger players; one revive does not represent one player getting up, it represents the entire party getting up, each with a multitude more health. If I were to do this, I'd create levels in which the party must split up into two parts, like a wall that lets 1/2 of the party through at a time.. and even then, there would be a high probability of people DCing in larger parties... so it'd probably have to be more of a "5 players minimum" type thing to get into the level. Which is why the guild thing would be a good idea. Players without guilds could also be invited, and could make their own parties of course, but the content would be designed for players that were familiar with each other enough to work for a better goal.
8 is too much for an averrage comp can handle
how about 6 players max on special missions, not that much lag, but still the enjoyment of the backup
For random people, it must be stuck at 4 max. you are in the same guilds, you get to hold up to 6 people max. All of the members has to be a guild.
Hello, lag.
