Unique? valiance is lame. The biggest reason to use guns is against lumbers, retrodes, and turrets, all of which (save the polyps) are weak against elemental. Nearly everything valiance can do, polaris can do better.
Normal damage weapons
Wow, do you need to try out a Vali before you talk about it again...
Damage aside, I still hate when people point that thing at me...s'like the antiguas tbh, I'd honestly rather they had alchemers.
I find some of the Normal weapons out there have nifty situational advantages over their split/pure special damage alternatives.
- Calibur's spin attacks are more powerful than a Brandish's blast wave against immobile enemies, and in tight spaces, when enemies are already trapped in a corner or choke point. The 360-degree knockback is also pretty useful for getting mobs off of you if you're completely surrounded (then again, that's a spot you don't want to be in, ever).
- Volcanic Pepperbox's knockback is great for large enemies, as well as mobs of smaller ones, if you get the time to charge it. It ruins Vana's mask, too, if you want to take it all the way there.
- Neutralizer's charge attacks' blasts will out-damage the Biohazard's against shadow-neutral enemies - even if Poison is applied.
The other Normal-damage weapons I have that have a special-damage counterpart almost never get touched. Nitro gets left on the shelf for Dark Briar Barrage, in particular, because it doesn't send crap flying to the other side of the room.
Oh, and also, I think that Valiance is the best sidearm in the game. Not the best gun, per se, but certainly the best backup tool you can have with its knockback, speed, and large bullets.
Hm. Apparently, volcanic pepperbox is crazy good for the jelly king. Did a solo RJP run using primarily the volcanic box, and once I got to the royal cube himself, I just spammed the charge and he was down in no time. The fire really helps as well.

I always found Pepperbox to be easier/faster/safer than FoV, for JK~
@Forum-Brady: I had never even considered bringing it to Jk. But I had remembered seeing somebody mention something about it here on the forums as one of the go to weapons for jk, so I decided to try it. It worked splendidly. It's one of those weapons that you rarely hear about though.
~Magnicth
Also works a treat on RT. In fact, it's one of the few weapons that can be used to fair effect on every boss in the game, because of the normal type damage, and the fire stacks up nicely. Even though it's not got Blitz's damage output, its charge damage is still ridiculously high and useful for everything Biltz is, but on a far wider scale; trojans, lumbers, even just groups of mobs (thanks to the KB!). However, C42 is a pretty awful place to bring it, despite it actually doing really good damage on both the "bosses". Unless ofc you've got fire immunity in there, then fire away! :)
^To add to what Dark Brady said, it is also the cheapest solution to the game. You can fight literally any mob with it. It takes a lot of practice to get right, but its worth mastering if you're tight on energy and free to play.
The whole reason i went for the volcanic pepperbox is because it looked fun and the fact that hardly anybody uses it, at least I don't see people using it. But I am really glad i went for it though. It really is an amazingly versatile weapon.
@Forum-Brady: mhmm. I've tried it out at multiple types of places, but never RT, or JK (until now), and definitely not FSC, but perhaps I shall sometimes soon. I once watched a video of Tsubasa using one in FSC, it was crazy.

It actually works really nicely in FSC. Losing the fire effect isn't enough to make it useless completely, as it's only a portion of the damage. It works wonders on trojans though, and can onehit them in 1/2 man parties. On Vanas mask it also does (just about) as much damage as Blitz, although sadly, Blitz remains the fastest mask killer despite the reistsance.
Only problem is that gun damage bonus is fairly heavily needed, or you'll find yourself wanting~ (imo, at least)
My clone outfit comes equipped with a leviathan and a triglav. Normal FTW!
Though the Triglav has a tendancy to betray me... freezing the other clone after the second hit, so i get a GF to da face. SUCH A HORRIBLE ELEMENT ON A BIG SWORD, I WANT FIRE!
Erm. Use Suda? I went with Suda because I don't like the way the freeze stops the knockback on charge attacks.
Sudaruska is probably one of, if not the only weapon with as much knockback as a bomb, with the ability to direct knockback perfectly regardless of enemy location relevant to the epicentre of the blast.
The best way to describe them is: "the jack of all trades, but master of none."
freezing the other clone after the second hit, so i get a GF to da face.
Ss'why I donn't like Triggy. Suda is the sword for KB while Triggy just cancels out the knockback with random, unpredictable freezes. If I wanted damage, I'd use a GF. If I wanted freeze, I'd use a Glacius. Triggy just seems to have an unhappy medium where it randomly picks one and leaves you guessing/dead. Suda is the ole' reliable. Never lets you down...unless you're against another sealed sword that swings faster :<
Valiance is another story, though.
That's a pretty important factor, tbh. Vali is widely used despite being normal because it's unique. For every normal sword , there's a weapon that's basically the same but special. The only unique thing about them are the charges, which are actually worse than the now-buffed brandishes.
If Vali had a special type version, Vali would be just as underused as the rest of them.
