This sounds utterly lame, I know. People who know me are probably thinking "This guy has gone crazy!" or something, but meh...

The idea is a CtF/tag sorta thing. You get all your equipment at your disposal, including your shield. The matches are tiered just like LD. There would be Free-for-All, Random Team, and Guild Team.

--FREE FOR ALL--

I'm going to explain FFA first. FFA would be 4 to 8 players.

Players are spawned in random spots on a arena. (These arenas would be the LD maps without the CPs and team bases.) Any respawns are BN-like, which would have you getting placed in random spots and with a invincibility period. Each CP would become Snipe-Pack Spawnpoint(SPS). I'll explain the SPS after explaining the Snipe-Packs. A Snipe-Pack is a backpack-like carry item, which you grab like minerals and presents. There are two types:

  • Small Snipe-Pack(SSP)
    • Attack Speed Decrease: Low
    • Charge Time Increase: Low
    • Movement Speed Decrease: Low
    • 1 point gained every 5 seconds
  • Large Snipe-Pack(LSP)
    • Attack Speed Decrease: High
    • Charge Time Increase: High
    • Movement Speed Decrease: Med
    • 3 points gained every 5 seconds

If you haven't guessed it by now, you get points for carrying Snipe-Packs around. The two packs are exactly the same except for the differences above. After picking 1 up, snipes start perching on the Snipe-Pack, and start eating seeds from it. The small one can only feed 1 snipe at a time, but the large one can feed 3 at once. Every snipe fed gives you a point. There is a 5 second delay between feedings, and if you are hit at any time, this 5 second delay resets. Snipe-Packs would show on the map and on the HUD the same way as CPs do in LD, but they would only be shown when they are being carried. (Until someone has found one, you will have to look yourself!)

When you lose your Snipe-Pack, it would vanish. There are 3 ways to lose a Snipe-Pack:

  • Dying
  • Running out of seeds (Small packs have 40 seeds and large ones have 120 seeds.)
  • Taking hits (You lose 3 seeds for every hit taken.)

(With these numbers, 200 seconds, or 3 minutes and 20 seconds, to run out of seeds. A SSP takes 14 hits to empty and LSP takes 40 hits.)

Depending on the total number of players in the match, that limits the total number of SnipePacks.

  • 4-5 players: 2 packs
  • 6-7 players: 3 packs
  • 8 players: 4 packs

Now that I've finished with Snipe-Packs, now for SPS.

SPSs will spawn a Snipe-Pack at the start of the match, and then whenever the current number of packs drops below the total. The type spawned is completely random. When you have 4-5 players, 3 point maps would be chosen. When anything else, 5 point maps are chosen. This is so that you always have atleast one empty SPS to start.

The victor is determined by the scores at the end of the time limit. There could be a score goal like in LD, but I like having no goal, personally.

--RANDOM and GUILD TEAM DM--

This plays the same way as FFA, but with the following exceptions:

  • Teams use spawn areas, as in LD.
  • SSPs also disarm the wearer's shield, preventing the holder from using it.
  • LSPs also disarm, preventing the holder from attacking or defending at all while holding it.
  • LD classes included here.
  • Obviously, points are global to the team.
  • The arena picking is the same as in LD, and all SPSs are active. (3-point maps give 3 snipe packs and 5-point maps give 5 ones.)

01/09/13: Nerfed snipe pack debuffs. Nerfed disarm for SSP (see 3rd reply for why I didn't remove it). Changed "dieing" into "dying".

Constructive feedback is appreciated.

I have one teeny tiny question.

Apparently from your description, I can already tell bombs are da uh... da bomb. No Charge time increase = Spam bombs! and basically you'd win!

Swords and guns (especially) seems to fall behind. Is there any way to balance it?

Feeding time delays looks harsh. Basically a player can come up and hack away at ya. You can't run, and fighting becomes tough. I am suggesting that the small pack does not punish, but the large pack can be a little more lenient. This problem will most likely come up in FFA, and in random teams, cooperation is difficult.

"SSP and LSPs also disarm, preventing the holder from attacking or defending at all while holding it.
Speed debuffs are given in a radius (Tier dependant) around the holder to allies.
LD classes included here."

Disarming is unfair. Speed debuffs are unfair, especially when ya wanna talk about teamwork. LD classes SHOULD NOT BE included. Let's just be fair :3

How big should maps be? Should there be some hiding spots or the sort?

+1 to this otherwise original thread

I love everything about this,

I love everything about this, it's getting boring playing Lockdown. Although I'd prefer for there to be new maps (like the Winterfest one, but with larger spaces and different themes). Also, don't want to be a grammar nazi, but THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS THE WORD 'DIEING'. It's 'dying'. I mean, doesn't three vowels in a row look wrong in a word? :/

@Zaffy-Laffy

You have some good points. I put CTI to balance bombs and also balance sword charges.

I also nerfed the debuffs.

Disarming, while it can be removed, has the point of making the wearer defenseless. You have to rely on your team, and if your team won't want to help you in this way, they can go crying back to LD. The point is to encourage teamwork.

I don't know why I said the radius debuff. I was foggy/sleepy, so meh. It's removed.

LD classes are included assuming they are balanced before this is made. Keep in mind that disarm prevents your shield from being used, so you won't have vanishing/speeding snipe feeders. I wanted to have the LD classes because, other then the striker, they encourage teamwork.

@Kimahsonite

While I fix that, let me point out that French has several triple vowels, such as the imperfect 3rd person pl. form of aller, allaient. (Proof)

@Both of you

I'm saying LD maps would be reused in almost every way. This is so that it is 1) less work for the devs, and 2) for every LD map they make, a SF(Snipe feeder) map is made. It would make things a bit simpler for the devs and let updates for both of them come out more often.

In FFA, how do you change classes and loadouts?}
Thats why LD has team bases.

I sense a temporarily confused OP

"Small Snipe-Pack(SSP)
Attack Speed Decrease: Low
Charge Time Increase: Low
Movement Speed Decrease: Low
1 point gained every 5 seconds

Large Snipe-Pack(LSP)
Attack Speed Decrease: High
Charge Time Increase: High
Movement Speed Decrease: Med
3 points gained every 5 seconds"

Shouldn't it be easier to lose the big pack? Otherwise everyone will go for the big one because the small one is both weaker and gives less points.
