A Blitz Needle is the obvious choice for raw dps, but is it really the best Vanaduke solo weapon, as it leaves you exposed for long periods of time? Can the pulsar line be more useful due to its higher mobility, or even a valiance? There are obvious problems like shadowfire and slags to contend with, as well as Vanaduke himself. Which gun is most useful for the Throne Room?

If you can handle it, go for

If you can handle it, go for Blitz Needle. The huge dps means you will do it much faster, which also means that you will have less time to do mistakes, and less shadowfire overall (you can totally finish him before the room is filled with shadowfire when soloing).

When I solo, I target slags first, so that they won't annoy me after. They die very easily to your elemental weapon of choice when you are solo. For the last wave of big slags, you can OS one as soon as they pop, and next charge go for the other one.

I don't see how AP can

I don't see how AP can possible compete with Blitz.

Then again, why is every piercing gun in the game so SLOW?

Blitz still can one-shot zombie, you don't really need an elemental weapon, unless you are still learning how to use blitz.
Ideally, you shouldn't take any damage at all even though you keep spamming blitz needle charge (well, may be you can't avoid one or two vana's dash but that's about it). It's possible but need to practice. (know the timing and position your should be, etc)

many guns work

Axonnox, you are right to question Blitz Needle. I've soloed Vanaduke with various guns --- Nova Driver, Hail Driver, Storm Driver, Argent, Polaris, Callahan, Blitz Needle --- and have found that mobility helps a lot. Then again, ending the fight quickly also helps a lot, and that's Blitz Needle's strength. Which is best for you may depend on your latency/lagginess and experience. Also, if you don't have Blitz or Fang or another slag-killing weapon, then you're going to have to ignore the slags or deal with them slowly.

Blitz still can one-shot zombie, you don't really need an elemental weapon

When facing a crowd of zombies in the final fight of depth 27, you use Blitz Needle? How many zombies does a charge take out? I always use elemental sword charges to simultaneously kill the zombies and push them back (or freeze/shock them). How does Blitz Needle compare in that fight?

I use Blitz for almost the entirety of FSC, Vana included.

Although to be honest, I don't always no-res solo Vanaduke. This is because I can't always cleanly kill the second slag guard in final form. So either I need to get better with Blitz, or bring something like FoV( that or have OOO fix the funky Dreadnought movement).

@Bopp

Would love to play along if you are curious, currently heating a lot of things that I only left with blitz needle.
Doing fairly well I guess, one charge could take 1 - 3 zombies depending on position (I am right in the middle between 2 - 3 zombies near each other) and that is with 4 party members but max damage.
I either use blitz needle in far range, when the zombies do get near, I walk to lure them charge attack, after I avoid all possible dangerous attack, I release the charge (sometimes I just ignore zombie dash since it's the least damage compared to other attacks).

Use a blitz! I can solo all

Use a blitz! I can solo all of FSC with my glacius and blitz no-death. On the boss, the glacius charge takes care of zombies easily, where I would then proceed to blitz Vanaduke. Also, the glacius charge is nice to freeze vanaduke to combo with a blitz charge (I like my glaicus!). But yeah, blitz has the highest DPS for Vanaduke, and it is not hard to dodge his mace attacks, just take care of zombies (and ignore slag guards for the most part) and you can win!

Blitz and Polaris

When soloing Vanaduke, I prefer to use Polaris AND Blitz Needle. I bring both badass weapons. But like Bopp has said you can use other guns as well. I used Callahan doing 264 per shot. Not as fun though, its the worst of both worlds. Slow mobility and not enough damage. What about his face? I ain't callahaning that.

When facing a crowd of zombies you can shield push the zombies and blitz them but using a elemental weapon like Polaris on them is so much better. The popular combo is Electron vortex then Blitz needle (most common would be Shivermist buster). I'm assuming this gun question was posed because of Vanaduke's second and third forms where he has the fireball rings.

Blitz needle or Pulsar type gun, take your pick. But blitz really is the best solo weapon for vana.
With shadowsun + 1 dmg trinket, I think it was like 11 or 12 Charged Blitz shots to bring Vanaduke down.

Is it the lava tiles that is making you question the mobility of Blitz Needle? Because that was my problem when I first started. There is a max limit to the amount on the screen and according to the guide its 25 (http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Vanaduke#Strategy) I never bothered to count. I waterball any near the bottom and try to keep most on the top middle. This makes it easier to see Vana and the direction of the slag guards and you won't have to worry about running into a lava tile accidently.

Mobility doesn't really

Mobility doesn't really matter for vana. He's completely immobile during almost all of HIS attacks too, except the dash which is preventable by staying fairly close to him.

If you think mobility doesn't matter... imaggine vana not movine and you not movine but the slags keep coming after you. that last stage you need mobility if you can't take out the slags. I'd bring a polaris, callahan, blitz and a WRH. Sure no freeze but with polaris i can keep things away and deal good damage with mobility, with callahan i have mobility and damage, with blitz i have huge damage and with WRH i have something to deal with slags.

What I would do is use polaris on vana and slags in stages 1 and 3 until all slags are dead then taunt him into an attack and hit with a blitz needle.

In phases 2 and 4 you can hit him with a polaris from outside his range while keeping the mask watered. It's safe but it takes a while

In phase 5 i would use polaris to keep slags and vana way while i took care of the slag defenders with the WRH (that has undead h on it) and switch between stunny vana with the callahan and hitting him with blitz.

The best weapons is a big arsenal.
