It's not that I mind this thing being rare, but making it only go to one random player is discouraging teamwork since other players can "steal" your tome and encouraging solo poopsocking since the chance of finding a tome just got cut into 1/16th of the previous chance. (Cut to 1/4th since players aren't inviting and cut to 1/4th again since you only get one book per drop instead of four.)
How about reverting tome pickups to go to the full party again?

My main issue here is the discouragement of teamwork. Whether everyone in the boss fight gets the hat or everyone present when the book drops get the book isn't of much importance to me so long as working together to find the hat is encouraged again.
Obviously, I'd prefer both. Larger groups could get together that way.
They could even make the book more rare to compensate if that's such a big issue, I just want people to not be short-sighted, selfish jerks again.
Edit: I mean for Vog's sake, can't people see that inviting eachother keeps your chance of getting a tome the exact same while earning you more pages?

This bug fix that makes it only obtainable for one random person in the party is complete bull, both the chance of finding a kat and the drop rate are already extremely low and now we are penalized for working on parties in a co-op game. If they want us to be playing solo that much, they shouldn't call it an MMO.

I was about to make my own thread regarding this, but seriously this change is absolutely ridiculous. As everyone has said already, it really makes this whole event solo-oriented... in an MMO. That doesn't even begin to make sense.
And now it's even gotten personal for me after my last run tonight.
For the first time since this event started, I decided to join up in a party since I was having trouble with the Prestige mission. I usually don't join parties due to horrible lag, but I really needed that help for those award pages. So as per usual with me in parties, I end up dying... a lot.
About half way on the first level, we find a natural spawn Black Kat and promptly curbstomp it into oblivion. And lo and behold, it drops the book! And the book goes to me... the most useless member of the entire party, who probably plays the least out of anybody there. I am not exaggerating when I say I felt completely and utterly TERRIBLE about that. There was only one person in the party that really knew the significance of the book, so we got to chatting after the mission. Since he obviously played far more than I did, I ended up literally giving him the book because I felt so bad about it and just tagging along as we took on Margrel.
As an extra level of annoyance and misery, the Black Kat Cowl is the only item I want from this event. *sigh* Back to grinding again tomorrow.
OOO, if your system makes people feel terrible for beating the odds over other players that deserve the same reward, there's something wrong. Please reconsider this decision on the book drops. I know this isn't the last we'll see of the event, but I don't want to have to go through this if I ever get that accursed book again. Unless you really want it to live up to its lore and have it cause nothing but misfortune...

The effort for finding a book combined with the elevator, revival cost, and the low spawn rates is as the same as.............a shadow lair. Is this item meant to be like a dark fang shield? What would we be doing if a shadow lair only gave the material to one random person who picks it up? 450ce.....magically vanishes for no apparent reason! Congratulations you have done something pointless at a cost! At least make it available from Pembrooke for a reasonable 1000 tokens. If you said "It is a material and should be treated as a material via randomly giving it to a player." Why don't you do that to shadow lair materials? Because its rare and costs ce to do? Well the spawn rates make it fit the exact same criteria! If it would be a copy for each player, problem solved! What about stacking Margrel runs and making an unreasonable benefit? Why does Margrel even HAVE ancient pages? And at worst what is 24 tokens going to buy? 12/25 a Kat fetish? Please reverse the change, it seems unfair between players who got it before the update and the players who had to watch their peers get it after.

That's a good point- The effort, time and cost that goes into find one of these things is equivalent to, or greater than, purchasing a shadow key and running a shadow lair. And guess what? Shadow lair materials go to everyone.

Everyone is working so hard, hunting and hunting and hunting, teams have to disband mid mission, and players just go solo, it does not really feel like a fun celebratory event anymore, and like zopyros-ll said, what happens when i do get a tome, do i deserve it over the rest of the team, its more bitter than sweet, and in the end, you just feel like you lost, please make this right, because from where i am sitting, its terribly wrong.

I agree that this change encourages soloing, rather than teaming up. During this event, I've found two books: one before the bug was fixed, and one after.
Before the bug was fixed, me and my friends would invite each other to kill any Black Kats we found. When we finally got the book, our whole party was extremely happy. We took turns activating the boss and had a lot of fun with it, chatting afterwards.
In contrast, the second time I found the book, I didn't invite anybody to kill the Black Kat with me. I actually didn't want my friends to know I found another book, because I thought they would be mad that I didn't invite them, after we had teamed up so much previously. =/
If the designers want to maintain the same level of rarity for the hat, they could divide the current probability of a book dropping by 4, and do one of two things: give the book to everybody, or, give the Black Kat Cowl to all players participating in the boss fight.

Yes it is if you are in a vocal chat like mumble or skype, but it is kinda frustrating that all my guildmates are mad at me because I found one so early and none of them as found another one. But seriously you see a book drop because you accidentally killed the kat what do you do?

After attempting to grind up -looks at math- 200 tokens and only running into -looks at hand for number of fingers being held up- 1 none event black kat, I have lost all motivation to play this game other then for the only none elemental bomb armor IN THE GAME. This event has just got my cogs into a grind. I can't get the image of the devs of OOO talking in a office with the subject of "player complaints" and the one on the bored being "lacking of bomber armor choice" and the only idea they could come up with was an event that the only way to get a 5 star none elemental bomber equip was to grind up 200 TWO FLIPPEN HUNDRED tokens form a rare mob just to get it and then they go ahead and REDUCE the ability to get a ULTARARE item from this event. seerusly OOO wtf are you thinking.

the only positive thing in three rings perspective i can see this update doing is that it will bring more money into OOO pocket because more players will have to buy elevator passes because they are all going solo to find the book becauseit only drops for only 1 member in the party. Besides this one positive aspect of this update, everything else is negative where it destroys player coraporation and forces players to grind endlessly (until the 13th) till they can get a book. I think all players on the party should get a book and the boss should only drop the hat and some crowns and no pages.

fun fact is that another of my friend who is working very hard for many days and night to get the book got in teams of 2 because hes not the best in candlestick, his friends was offline so he take the first one that goes by ... drop the book .. new guy have it ... we never heard of this guy ever after
i love how luck based things is just unfair ... i mean if some of my friend and many other people are elevator pass grinding for these books and dont have one ... how free to play are suposed to get one ... i know the event will come back but can we at least have a chance .. and what the hell is that with the guy with 14 books already?

Would you still run those pain in the arse candlekeep or would you return back to your normal way of farming?
I've only been farming the book so that my GM would stop whining about it and me being "lucky" (when he f***ng got the humbug hat and I had to buy it for 110k cr even though I have farmed Winterfest for 5 days, killing at least 500 stalker)
That's the only reason you farm one. So that people you play with, respect and like will stop whining about it and stop hatting you for winning the god damn lottery

Have they said anything more on this matter? It's really depressing that they did this, especially when everyone told them how bad an idea it is.
Before the update, we were seeing a good side of the community where they were helping one another to get the Cowl. Post update, we see all this unnecessary nastiness and grief the community has to offer... when we're not busy grinding solo for that stupid book.
C'mon OOO. Can we at least get a response on this matter? It's becoming a really big problem.

Well, as I have said this rate is so ridiculous that I bought a book with the money of selling event mats some days ago and haven't even seen the freaking book's shadow in a run. It surely needed this no-party nerf to make it a fair drop, huh.
for at least give the hat at everyone who was at the boss battle .. only once like the hammer so the book division would still be fair ... fought the boss and yet no reward .. and seeing all people around me getting the hat exept me while i did the same effort if not more than them and still get nothing
6 tokens is still too low to consider this boss batlte worth just to see someone else wear that hat when you can be hunting some kats yourself to get a book
because the boss battle wont give you what you where hunting for
