In terms of damage, does it do enough to be a viable weapon?
Would damage bonus Max make it more so?
Opinions?

I went ahead and did a quick check with calc.exe through the Lance Knightz' data.
-Difference between +0 and +6 for the cutter's stroke is somewhere around 70%... for depth 24. Also that's only the initial strike. Counting in the very low difference for ghost strikes it's just about 50% like most swords. (For bombs this number is about 35%, yet another reason Bombtastic is useless against Volcanic but I digress).
-At depth 19 this difference is considerably lower. You really can't count on anything to do anything in this game. ASI, on the other hand, is much more reliable as I don't think swords swing faster in some depths than others.
-Damage boost with Troika is around 30% while with DA and Brandishes it's well over 50%.
-Damage boost with Rocket Hammer was pretty low compared to other swords, lower than even Troika. I get the impression it's much preferable to combine it with ASI.
My first sword of the 5* kind was DVS. It's a pretty nice sword, dealing Normal damage and having the highest damage of all of them. It does beat Wild Hunting Blade on the DPS due to the poison. WHB does have some pros though, and those are:
As Bopp says though, neither is easy to use. If you want Normal damage, I'd recommend CIV. Why CIV and not Levi? Read this: http://tinyurl.com/LeviVsCiv
As I recently explained here, I cannot perceive any range difference between WHB and DVS.
According to the Lancer Knightz data, DVS/WHB does have slightly higher DPS than Leviathan --- but only slightly. In my opinion, Levi's superior charge attack more than makes up for this slight difference in regular attack DPS.
Is that so, Bopp? I can't remember where I read it... Thanks for the heads up, anyway. Getting my Hunting Blade tonight, Wild Hunting Blade to follow in a bit more time \o/
As a User.
No. Do not get it. It is fun but you won't use it often enough after getting other 5* gear to justify getting it. WHB has interupt to save you and still I say get specialized damage weapons.
Bella, don't worry. I have all weapon types and full armour sets. I'm using this for fun and I've already crafted it :3.
Very fun, decent damage with damage max and I'm having fun with it. (as in compared to using guns with no damage bonus and someone is waiting for you to kill the last monster, it is a lot better).
A nice plus is that you can take it anywhere and hit anything with it, so as long as I have damage bonus max, I'm good.
Since you alreadt got it, here are some tips.
Vana mask charge! Normal is the only type of damage the mask doesn't resist and tge charge roots you in place allowing all strikes to hit, and poison the mask for more damage!
Vana: phase one has no fireballs, DVS that funky dude.;3
Turrets. They are vulnerable when attacking. Infact everything is vulnerable when locked in an attack animation. DVS has a short one to get in and out fast. I've attacked a slag until it started to swing at me then switched targets, took no damage and finished the combo. Though I like using the charge on turrets.
@krakob: beware, because WHB has a slight speed reduction. you will notice it.
I was planning to get a DVS. Bella, I notced that WHB has some knockback on 2nd strike. how about DVS? does it have it? more than attack cancelling, I use that to protect me.
The DVS is surprisingly potent in the clockworks if you max out it's speed and power. While it can't kill entire mobs in a single combo, it's ideal for big, fat enemies and for fighting your way out of a mob that has completely surrounded you. A few times I have been completely surrounded by enemies like mechaknights and zombies, and was able to slice a way out and escape thanks to the DVS. Despite my use of it in T3 lockdown, it is horribly underpowered and I would not recommend it as a PvP weapon (invinciframes limiting the amount of times you can hit enemy players and whatnot; totally neuters the entire weapon line).
It is also incredibly effective in OCH - it pops medic bubbles; poisons said medics and their respective mobs; almost always disarms mortafires, making them go from annoying to incredibly fat sitting ducks; flushes out Ghostmane Stalkers, as well as making it incredibly hard for other stalkers to hit you while attacking; and also comes in handy for all the block and missile puzzles they throw at you in the DLC.
Only draw back is when it comes to thwackers. The attacks don't interrupt, so I have to usually switch to a GF or something to finish the job.
Incredibly powerful and versatile against single enemies and mobs of enemies that can be canceled in single hits, like devilites, greavers, and etc. as well as slow enemies like lumbars, zombies, and turrets.
Absolute crap though at kiting. Do not try to assault a mob of mechaknights in an arena with one of these: you will not flinch them, and die horribly. The charge attack is nigh-useless as well: I don't think I've ever used it in either PvP or PvE.
I think most players give it and WHB so much crap because they're all so used to being able to kill everything in 2 hits with some of the heavier swords. I definitely understand the appeal, as I do so myself. The DVS and WHB's strength really isn't in damage, but in it's maneuverability - with lumbars for example, I'm usually able to up-front assault them and move around them while still attacking, allowing me to dodge their attacks and placing me safely behind them.
However, for what you can do for a maxed out DVS, I'm sure an even better weapon can come out of maxing pretty much anything else except a winmilion.
Meh, apple to oranges.
Whoa, what? When did WHB suddenly become a viable endgame weapon? Did they buff it and I didn't notice? For years I was under the impression it was just as useless as CIV.
Poor Arkus, the fallen, fallen knight. He tried so hard to use that two-hit sword combo, but my level 8 WHB shut 'm up... (2 player team)
That Silent Legion run: Mercurial set, APS, WHB-ASI med, DA (so I'm about as fast as a DVS or something)
Oh and, ^ link needs the fixing. I think you forgot to remove the "forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/" or something?
I can personally confirm that DVS has no cancellation whatsoever until the last swing. (Except on Scuttlebots and Greavers, which are wusses and will stop even if you only hit them with a Proto Gun.) This has resulted in me dying quite a few times before I figured out that the intelligent thing was to get the turret to fire FIRST, then let off the charge whilst they were firing in the wrong direction.
They are entertaining to play with. I feel totally boss running around with my DVS in a Black Kat Cowl and Swiftstrike Buckler. The thing is that those swords really need some ASI and damage bonus love, but if you give it to them then they are actually pretty decent. I am vaguely considering doing FSC with nothing other than Valiance and DVS, just to see how hard it is.
i had DVS once and it was really fun to play around with, but kinda useless.....but then again at that time i only had vog, so no dmg bonuses, but according to what other people said, WHB interrupt things on the charge while DVS doesnt, but DVS has more DPS. i find DPS+poison betetr than interrupting things because you can like obviously freeze something and go behind to use DVS charge safely or something also poison is really good in some situations like when in t3 arena, you'll find gremiln menders with mecha knights, so just poison the mecha knight 1 by 1 and there gonna slowing die, while with WHB your wide open for a side attack so DVS is better than WHB IMO
I think its nice enough... i mean, every enemy or even knights (LD) Gets little more damage if poisoned, you must see poison as a dangerous status, every status have their ability, none is weaker than other, combining status will make you strong (Except fire/shock combined with freeze, smart peoples will know what's going to happen). So in my opinion, its better than wild hunting blade
The guild Lancer Knightz collects extensive data on weapon speed and damage. So you can compare DVS to other swords. I also discuss it in my sword guide, where I cannot come up with a particular purpose or strength of this sword.
DVS is very fun, in the opposite way that heavy swords are fun. Because you have to get up in monsters' faces, and the charge attack is so dangerous when multiple monsters are around, it is one of the least safe swords. Playing with it in Stratum 6 is doable, but I would almost say that it's a challenge.
Having a big damage bonus or ASI would help, of course. On the other hand, damage bonus and ASI help other swords too. So damage bonus and ASI don't improve DVS' standing relative to other swords.
