PvP Coliseum things I had in mind.

I have noticed that the Coliseum is a nice place to PvP once in a while, but I'm certain there are some ways that it can be made better. Here's a few I might suggest:

1) Rooms. I've noticed that there are only a few settings such as "Tier 1," "Tier 2," "Tier 3" and "Ultimate" Brawl modes, but the only other information you can see are the entry fees and the number of people waiting. You can't see who is waiting, and you're forced to wait until the game starts, you can't start it yourself. Making rooms for PvP, or at least rooms within the limitations of the current Tier system, might make PvP a lot more enjoyable and a lot less tedious.

2) Free-Play/Practice. There's a chronic lack of a method to practice your PvP skills, and I'm noticing that EVERY mode costs crowns. Not everyone who plays is a gambler, they might not want to risk their funds. I think there should be a Practice tier where people can fight without any reservation. The catch would be that, should there ever be leaderboards, that Practice will NOT count towards it.

3) Teams. Only having free-for-all modes can get somewhat bland after a while, and some people -- i.e. guilds -- might want to team up with each other.

These are just ideas. Feel free to critique them, or perhaps even add your own.

Free mode

Ah yes, a mode with no entry would be nice, for those time you want to do some pvp, but not competitively, just for fun.
Or if you want to test something.
Probably also with no time limit or points or anything.

An Unlimited Brawl, where

An Unlimited Brawl, where there's no limit to entrants or respawns and you just run around attacking anyone and everyone you can.
The stage just expands or disappears as more players join and leave.

You can leave Brawl Records by getting the highest kill streaks inside Unlimited Brawl. But I imagine this would be subject to boosting if it was ever implemented.

Unlimited brawl could lead to massive lag though Shoebox. Imagine 20 or more in an arena all shooting or slashing around :P

For the OP: I like all your ideas. Rooms might lead to people getting excluded though. (if there was to be a "boot" button) A practice mode would be a very good thing, and so would team-play be. Although for teams, friendly fire disabled/enabled? Might give some tricky moments for e.g. vials and bullets, do they fly through your teammates or hit him/her? Might give some unwanted problems. Just bringing up what's in my mind!

1) Yes. I've been playing a fair bit of Starcraft II recently, and they have done away with rooms for their custom game system. It is absolutely horrible. Rooms are definitely needed once there are more people playing.

3) I'm looking forward to team games too! Even vanilla Capture The Flag would be great.

Something I'd like to see:

A secondary objective.

A simple one: pick up an object (key, ball) and take it to a place (door, goal) that corresponds to a certain player. That player loses X points. Or there could be only one goal, and it removes points from the person currently in the lead.

This could be added to brawl or a seperate game mode.

I think making rooms work

I think making rooms work almost exactly like they do for YPP's parlor games would be perfect. Tiers wouldn't be necessary anymore. When you make a room, you just specify the items allowed and the wager.

Some ideas: A round-based

Some ideas:

A round-based mode with no respawns. Three matches to a set?

Modes that impose equipment limitations (no swords, no guns, no shields, etc) could be fun.

Round-robin 1v1 duel mode. Team version could have "spectating" players throwing flasks in from the stands or activating traps around the room.

Race To The Finish. Players navigate an obstacle course as quickly as possible while avoiding traps and monsters. Slam doors in the faces of the opposition. Release monsters in to their path. Snag speed powerups along the way to give yourself a temporary edge. Oh, and the level should crumble in to the void of the clockworks behind you. Keep up or be destroyed.

Modes that impose specific kill targets. You can only earn points by eliminating a particular opponent; either your target or the player who is targeting you. Killing anyone else results in a point penalty. Once you kill your target, you get their target. Eliminated players must wait for a new match to rejoin the game.

Competitive monster slaying. Earn points for killing enemies; the bigger and badder the enemy, the more points you get. Killing blow nets the points? This mode would be great for general use in the Clockworks, actually - wager a certain amount and earn a little extra cash at the end of a run.

Modes in which players pilot mecha-knights. Destroying an opponent's mecha-knight reveals that player, who is otherwise unarmed. Points for destroying the knight, double points for killing the pilot. Surviving for a certain amount of time without your knight allows you to recover it. May also work with Trojans.
