I'm debating whether to go with grey feather, divine, or chaos sets. Yes I no vog cub and skolver are better, and I'm getting them first. Out of these three though, which are best for a swordsman, who also is prolly getting skelly. Thanks do much
Miracle set - which way should I go
I didn't even think of that last point. But your totally right. I'll prolly get it eventually just cause I have lots of ce that I don't use for runs, but otherwise I might just leave it as miracle. Other opinions still welcome of course
Just make Chaos. I have no idea why you'd want Skolver when you can get Chaos.
I disagree with everything that Bopp said.
Skolver and Vog are better than chaos because they are more balanced it makes me feel human. Chaos has great defense against everything but statuses, so using chaos defensively for status-less levels with elemental is recommended.
Grey feather does not offer a substantial amount more of defense, its just like vog but with about a low UV in each stat and with elemental/normal reversed.
There is also the possibility of equipping no armor, if you are a game master, making there more than 3 existent armors with no normal defense.
There are many monsters that deliver no normal damage- like gun puppies. If you have a strategy that will never get you hit by melee attacks, it would be advisable to bring no normal defense.
Divine veil does not give a fiend bonus, it gives a damage versus fiend bonus, so no need to worry about buffing nearby devilites.
Divine mantle is useful when you want to equip black kat cowl, or another helmet-only item and have mixed defenses.
Bopp is not actually worried about you. Bopp does not care for anyone, because he won't friend people in game. Bopp has no soul.
It sounds to me more as if people have convinced him that he needs to craft vog, and that that alone has deterred him.
And about upgrades from 4* to 5* costing more than upgrading from 2-4*...This is not always the case, as some items require effort and prior items/experience to reach 4* when earned by a knight not-relying heavily on friends, like crest of almire.
And I would advise making 5* gear that you don't want. Most items in spiral knights offer some good to them, and branching out is a good way to keep the game fun.
...that I care for no one and have no soul.
So make vog? Don't make vog? Make chaos, not grey feather? Make divine? I'm really confused lol
If you're already making vog, grey feather isn't that important. Instead of spending money on that set, spend it on getting shock UVs.
Or just make chaos and spend all the exta money on UVs to counter the statuses and ASI for weapons.
Solest, I compare Vog Cub, Skolver, and Chaos in that sword guide that I linked above. It just comes down to your desired balance of offense and defense, which we can't choose for you.
As Little-Juances says, status UVs definitely tilt the playing field toward the more offensive armors. Chaos with status UVs completely overpowers everything else. Zeddy would probably say that Chaos without status UVs completely overpowers everything too (although I may be putting words into his mouth).
Naw, you've got it about right. Put a couple of shock UVs on it and it not only overpowers everything else, but obsoletes them as well.
Chaos is so OP I won't want to use my Troikas with it because my UVs will be wasted.
So chaos is good is the general consensus
Chaos is so common that bringing a Shivermist to Lockdown is now something you can do!
Sorry I don't really play ld the joke is lost on me.
Chaos is extraordinary from an offensive standpoint, since it provides a medium Charge Time Reduction and Damage Bonus for -all- weapons. This means that one piece has 12 points of buffed stats per piece, while a normal armor set, say shadowsun or skolver, only gives 2 buffed stat points per piece. When using the complete set, it makes CTR trinkets/unique variants completely redundant, so you can focus on other things. As such, you can focus almost entirely on ASI UV's/Trinkets, as well as status defense UV's on the armor itself, the most important debatably being Fire and Shock. A medium UV per piece or Very High on one will completely negate a status weakness. In theory, and with a huge amount of money and luck, you can make a set that is not only free of status weaknesses, but also has some amount of resistance to them. Of course, Triple-Maxing anything is never fun or very cost-efficient. As such, I'd only worry about Fire and Shock, since these are some of the most common statuses, especially in missions/depths with large amounts of enemies that deal Elemental damage. From a statistical and gameplay standpoint, Chaos more than makes up for its weaknesses with overwhelming offensive power.
I have been rolling with Chaos body and Divine Veil. I agree with everyone that the cr is better spent on UV's to work around Chaos' weaknesses. I made mine with Fire med to nullify the negative fire for FSC runs. Then, with the Divine Veil, I still get a bunch of fire resist, and of course the tasty fiend bonus. I had a normal med UV on the Veil, so I end up with a lot of protection from the damage types I encounter there (Normal, Elemental, Shadow, and Fire) with the aforementioned bonus of all that extra ctr and dmg. It's been a nice balance between offense and defense, and since med UV's are enough to nullify Chaos' weak points, it didn't cost very much at all to make. Good luck!
You may find the armor section of my detailed sword guide helpful. Here are some specific comments:
I disagree with you that Vog Cub and Skolver are better than Chaos. Those are both fine armors, but Chaos offers outstanding offense, at the cost of terrible defense (which you can partly cancel with UVs). So, if you are a skillful, non-laggy player, then Chaos is awesome.
Grey Feather offers outstanding defense. Divine is one of three types of armor (the others being Radiant Silvermail and Dragon Scale) with no normal protection. You always want normal protection. Therefore you do not want to wear double Divine. Divine Veil comes with a fiend bonus, while Divine Mantle does not. Therefore you never want Divine Mantle. You might want Divine Veil, if you are trying to put together a single, well-rounded armor set (e.g. Divine Veil with Skolver Coat). But otherwise I would stick to Chaos for offense and Grey Feather for defense.
Finally, the premise of your question worries me a bit. It sounds as if you've already got some Miracle armor, and you figure that you have to upgrade it to 5 stars, or else your 4-star investment will be wasted? Please keep in mind that the upgrade from 4-star to 5-star is more expensive than the total cost in reaching 4-star. In other words, even if you're at 4-star, you're less than halfway to 5-star, in terms of the resources that you have to expend. Do not make a 5-star item just because you have the 4-star item. Don't throw good money after bad. Make a 5-star item only if you really want that 5-star item.
