I know this has probably been answered like a million times but I would like to get some fresh input on this. Anyways I wanted to see if from what I gathered this would be the correct setup for the run.

Armour : Full Skolver
Shield : Barbaruos thorn shield or Ironmight plate shield

Weapons
Slot 1:Barbaruos thorn blade
Slot 2:Polaris
Slot 3 : DA
Slot 4 : Blitz needle

I am still not sure about the slot 4 though because I have seen many people say that blitz needle is useless in the rabid snarbolax run but I've also seen many who say that it is useful as well. If you disagree wit it being useful,what other weapon would you suggest I would use ? Would Voltaic Tempest be good ? Anyways thanks to anybody who has read through this post and even more thanks to those that reply.

Yes, this has been asked many times. Try searching Google (not the forum itself) for something like "spiral knights forum rabid snarbolax".

If you are with an experienced, skilled, low-lag party, then you'll be completely fine with your described setup. If you're with a novice, unskilled, laggy party, then you might make a couple of adjustments...

Your armor is good, except that you have no shadow protection, and there are lots of howlitzers and kats to worry about. Consider Crest of Almire. Or, if you want to keep the BTS sword bonus, try a piece of shadow armor.

Your weapons are good. BTB/FF is obviously very appropriate. I like DA in Shadow Gloaming Wildwoods because it can hit multiple kats at once. Polaris is fine, but keep in mind that some fights are tight enough that the bullets may not be able to expand before they reach their target. Crowd control could be accomplished through Voltaic Tempest or Shivermist Buster instead; it wouldn't be a bad idea for someone in your party to have one of those. I've never tried Blitz Needle in SGWW.

Good luck and enjoy. SGWW is fun.

I wouldn't take the Blitz, instead I would take Shivermist Buster as mentioned by Bopp, or Warmaster Rocket Hammer (It's trojan-like dash is extremely useful against crowds). If you don't have either, consider taking Swagg-err I mean Stagger Storm. Don't have that? Ugh, that's hard. Take a Hail Driver. Still nothing? I give up. Take the blitz.

About the shields - if you have to pick between the two I'd say Ironmight, due to how many hits it can withstand. Defense is over damage in most SLs.

@Bopp Well I myself never lag

@Bopp
Well I myself never lag and neither does my friend(we always go in a party of 2). I guess we are moderately skilled(We can solo FSC and Vanaduke himself) so I guess there wouldn't be problems there.

I might change the shield to Crest of Almire but I'm still thinking about it. I am actually absolutely lost what piece of shadow armour should I bring if I decide to go with BTS/Ironmight. Mind suggesting a good piece. I might bring Voltaic Tempest instead of Blitz needle because I see it being suggested as a good crowd control bomb.

@Indernoburned
I would bring warmaster rocket hammer but I actually am not that good at using it. Never really practiced that much with it. So I don't think it would be a good idea for me to use it. We already have shivermist in the party so that is sort of fulfilled. I'll think about stagger storm because that could be really useful. Any other suggestions ?

Thank you for the replies so far

Incidentally, one of the best shadow armors is the snarby coat you get after doing the lair.
Another good option is Radiant Silvermail.

Shadowsun would be good for a gunner. You carry 2 guns, you can give it a chance.

Blitz is ok if you can hit with it. What usually happens is as soon as one of the Snarbies are stunned, everyone goes after it with their toothpicks and pushes it away from your shot. Or you get hit repeatedly while charging (especially if nobody is attacking the swarm seed and you're over its area)

The shield you take depends on whether you'd rather it be torn to shreds by the undead or by the boss. If someone is taking a shiver then the undead aren't too bad so go with a piercing one.

Here is the loadout I prefer

Here is the loadout I prefer to use:
-Snarbolax Cap
-Skolver Coat
-Barbarous Thorn Blade
-Polaris/Argent Peacemaker (If there is a Shiver then I prefer AP, but if not then Polaris for knockback)
-Barbarous Thorn Shield
-No trinkets (my personal choice)
Hope that helps!

A piercing resistant is quite a must due to the boss. The stages are packed with both beasts and undead so you'd do well in bringing both piercing and shadow resistant armour. Radiant Silvermail is brilliant in there but it has very few uses aside from UGWW and those Concrete Jungle stages. You'll definitely want to bring Polaris for the crowd control and a toothpick sword is a must. Other good weapons are Shivermist and various elemental swords. Personally, I believe DA is good here. A well placed charge can be of immense help due to the great amount of enemies you will face.

boss does normal damage, no piercing. Polaris and flourish is not a must. Flourish is still a great help on boss. But Brandish and DA could do better job than polaris on damage while still doing well on crowd controls. :p
