When a player starts a thread, that player's ignore list gets automatically applied to the thread so that no one on that player's ignore list can post in the thread. Additionally, any post made by any player who gets added to the original poster's ignore list would also become deleted.
Viola ~ a much friendlier forum!
How to reduce bickering in the forums to almost zero
I have a better idea. An ignore list that hides all comments by that user from that ignoree's screen
That way everyone can reply and see the replies EXCEPT the person who blocked them.
Depends on Drupal.
If their comment gets deleted, they might have some valuable info to share with you and want you to forgive them.
If they're bothering you, file a support ticket that a user is harassing you. :P
forum
- the marketplace or public square of an ancient Roman city, the center of judicial and business affairs and a place of assembly for the people
- a court or tribunal: the forum of public opinion
- an assembly, meeting place, television program, etc., for the discussion of questions of public interest
- a meeting or assembly for the open discussion of subjects of public interest
- a medium for open discussion
Shh, I can't leave the computer, there's someone arguing with me on a random website right now!
I did not realize Luguiru could make a post that wasn't completely stream-of-consciousness nonsense. Ima remove him from my ignore list right now!
However, my suggestion WOULD save the moderators a lot of work.
HAOW ABUT WE JAST STAHP MAUKING DUMB SUGGERSTINS, UES DEETAILS, PROPer SPEELING AN D GRAHMER?
If they really really hate you, they'll take 2 mins to create an alt account and continuosly delete/create characters.
You ignore individual knights, not accounts.
And by the looks of things, they WILL do that.
Sorry, but you can't escape internet trolls
If I suspected someone of ignore or ban evasion I'd just file a support ticket.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha no ha ha ha ha.
Really, this won't work. I'd prefer a shiny report button over this.
- Just because you dislike someone doesn't mean their point isn't true or of any use.
- Someone could be a complete idiot on one topic but a genius on a other. In other words, if you blocked someone for talking nonsense about something, how do you know they won't be a very helpful source when you talk about something else?
-
- How will only receiving the messages you want to receive make things better?
- How will blocking those who don't agree with you solve anything?
- How will only allowing those who don't consider the bad side of your suggestions solve things?
Just because you don't want to see a certain knight's opinion doesn't mean that others don't.
The forums are for everyone to use whether you like it or not so deal with it. Here in the forums when you post a thread you WILL receive positive and/or negative feedback so deal with it. Don't like the forums cause it apparently its "not friendly enough" for you? Well, I know how you can deal with it! >>> Press Alt & F4 <<<
Fallen ~ Making a stand!
Have a good day.
The fundamental problem with your suggestion is that you assume solely friendliness is a good thing.
Hint: It's not.
I have a better idea. An ignore list that hides all comments by that user from that ignoree's screen

Isn't this how the Spiral Knights Ignore function already works?
#Idontgetsarcasm
pretty sure the forums don't have such a feature. And I'm not sure what you meant by sarcasm. Were you being sarcastic?
pretty sure the forums don't have such a feature
Pretty sure it does.
I thought you might have known that and were being sarcastic about it.
Ignore lists work on the forum? :o
(I would have no idea is this is true or not, because my ignore list is empty.)
@Gent-Soopakoopa and Klipik-Forum
Hi, Klipik, I appreciate your forums activeness.
It’s not about forcing friendliness although at least civility would be appreciated. It’s about maintaining the integrity of a thread and self-policing violations of the forum rules of usage.
A good example is in this thread I started
http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/83073
Post # 10 was rightfully deleted as nothing but a personal attack, but still succeeded in derailing the thread somewhat. If I had had the power to handle that myself, the integrity and civility of the thread could have been preserved without wasting the moderators’ time.
`@ Luguiru
Hi, Luguiru, I appreciate your posts and thank you for the definitions. It’s not about making it less public, but rather making it less toxic, which I think we’d all appreciate.
@ Little-Juances
Hell, LJ, and thank you for being such an active forums poster.
About alt accounts, what SK should do with the ignore function, is when we go to put a player on ignore, we should be given three options as to how we want to apply it: 1) to the character only, 2) to the account, 3) to the IP address, which is how permanent bans work, This would stop stalking and harassing in a heartbeat, and save a lot of people a lot of grief, moderators included.
@Fallen-Night
Hi. I’ll try to answer some of your questions.
How do you know they won't be a very helpful source when you talk about something else?
Yes, there’s that risk, so people will have to wisely use their ignore list.
How will only receiving the messages you want to receive make things better?
It’s about making the forums more civil.
How will blocking those who don't agree with you solve anything?
I wouldn’t block someone for just disagreeing.
How will only allowing those who don't consider the bad side of your suggestions solve things?
There are many kinds of threads beyond suggestions. I’m thinking specifically about long-running threads such as those found in guild recruitment or treasure vault. Perhaps the ignore function could work only in those sections of the forums.
Thank you for reading and responding, Everyone
The problem isn't what it's intended for, it's how it can and most probably will be abused.
How to make peacefull forums?
-Delete 'em.
Ba dum tss.
Someone can have a terrible attitude and still have viable points of discussion. A personal 'ignore' feature that instead mutes players like in-game for only the person setting up the ignore would be the best course of action.
Why should personal vendettas get in the way of everyone else's discussions? If A and B hate eachother but both start meaningful debates, why can't C, D, E, and all the other 21 letters chime in, too?
In other words, your /ignore should not automatically be my ignore, too.
In the same vein, I disagree with Batabii's idea as well. I'd end up being paranoid someone /ignored me for whatever reason and I'm missing out on cool stuff.
Yes, free speech is important.
But remember that it should only be allowed to a degree.
The issue is that there are people who enjoy to meaninglessly tear up an idea or conversation.
Should destructive criticism be allowed?
It is a fine line and random individuals cannot properly regulate it. The best thing to do is to allow officials to handle it.
Force friendliness by blocking out everyone who disagrees.
Isn't that how opressive totalitarian governments work?
