I have done plenty of T3 Expeditions and have run a 7-2 mission that has a fair amount of boxes copious amounts of times. In all the runs I haven't got more than 5-6 orbs. One box dropped 3 of those orbs. I cannot seem to get any orb drops at a semi-reasonable rate even after hours of gameplay. I run all the missions on elite. I even ran a tier 3 through to the end which included 3 danger rooms, as well as 2 treasure vaults, and I still didn't get a single orb. Do you tend to find more in larger groups or is there some more efficient way of getting orbs aside from spending energy on them im not aware of?
How do you guys manage to amass so many orbs?

FSC or any tier 3 arena has a
FSC or any tier 3 arena has a good chance of dropping a couple orbs. Doesn't matter if you solo or play in groups, everyone gets different loot.

Personally I never use orbs.
I have never used an orb and I don't think I will, let me explain, I don't craft.
I have many many useless orbs that I do not need and would be happy to give to you. However SK has made them bound and I can't trade them.
Like Jaroche said FSC has some, but otherwise just buy them from the AH or SD.
I usually don't find many doing missions and wish I could help more, sorry.
(If you wanted to know why I don't craft it is because it is simply easier and faster to just buy them straight of the AH or SD)
Spend crowns on AH :P
It does not cost you energy that way.
