1) Make a check box in the options panel to hide all game chat.
2) When checked, no game text will show up in the lower left. Speech bubbles will still show in the main screen.
3) Server notifications/warnings are exempt as well as text from friends
4) Check box is unchecked by default

Why this is needed:

1) People with small computer screens who can't play full screen have about a quarter of their screen covered by the text box. A full text box makes it hard to see objects that appear in that region of the screen. While the /clear command does clear the text box it is annoying to have to do it every few minutes or so (and while in battle, it is not convenient). Typing anything in the chat also happens to remove default auto-target (which btw is another bug that I think needs fixing).

2) It offers a convenient alternative to ignoring a lot of people for short periods of time. This has practical applications in Lockdown arguments and when talking to friends in a crowded haven. Perhaps people can find more.

3)It shouldn't require very extensive coding effort to implement this, and the feature would be optional.

Petition? I just think this needs to be a suggestion. Although +1 to you sir, chat is so annoying sometimes.

Alright. Something to say:

1. This should be a suggestion. I see "petition" over used here in the suggestion forums.
2. I'm sure this has been suggested, it's just probably hiding on page, like 55 somewhere. XP
3. Honestly, a better solution is what Lego Universe did. For those of you how haven't played LU they had different tabs for each of the chat. Something like this:

(Global Chat) / (Guild Chat) / (Friend: Isekuube) / (Friend: Utrex-Two)

Something like that. Now, I am sure that other MMOs have done something like this, and I think it may be on Hex's thread somewhere. Buuut, there's no harm putting it here.

That's really all I have to say. I'm going to remain neutral on the subject.

Hey Ise, I +1 that. It could also be hidden and the friend chats could be closed, so that's actually neat. It would also make talking to multiple people easier by a lot. By the way, didn't know you played LU too.

I think this has gotten suggested on Hex's big thread of wonders, but yeah.
(On a side note, LU is what got me into MMO's I was really upset about the closing of it. I was pretty much end-game though. XD)

It really bugs me how you just shrug this off. Of course there is a command for this, it's just inconvenient to do this over,

and over again.

+1, but only if "hide" can be "unhidden" without missing any, and it doesn't just block all chat. Really, just make a toggle like every other menu in the game...
